Is this the best mid range watch regarding quality and bang for buck?

If not what is the alternative?

It's a really nice watch, really can't fault it for anything at all. It's a little boring, but high quality and it could well be the only watch you ever need. It's pretty casual, but at the same time nobody could really fault you for using it as a dress watch too. I like the white one better, personally.

posting a cheap fashion quartz shitter because I do like the design. I just want something more expressive rather than the same old same old and with 35mm case diameter it's a great size.

I want it to have a date window though.
looking good?

any recommendations with colorful dials like that from more well-known watchbrands appreciated, pham.

So it turns out that Movado is one of the cheapest ways to get a sapphire crystal. How bad of an idea is this?

a shitter with sapphire crystal is not the worst thing you could buy. at least that's no overpriced Swatch Irony which doesn't even have Mineral OR Sapphire crystal.

I've had this for a while now but find myself wearing it less and less because I just don't find the NATO comfortable. It's a little abrasive, makes the watch sit high, and is not stiff enough to support a watch like this. I was thinking of replacing it with a Bonetto Cinturini rubber strap since I have one on another watch and love it, but I'm open to suggestions.

>>
>>12448240

A watch for the day and the rest of my life. Will this last?
>>
>>12448240
No. It's way overpriced for what you get. A Hamilton Khaki Field has the same exact movement inside, and only costs about $300.
>>
>>12448381
It's the same movement as they made by the same factory or as they are the same design?
>>
>>12448452
ETA SA Manufacture Horlogère Suisse (Or just ETA) makes the movement of just about any watch that says it's Swiss.
The Tag you've posted has the 2824-2 caliber (That is, it has the three hands, and two wheels, one for day, one for date). The Hamilton I mentioned has the exact same features. The Tag is between $1500 and $2500, right? The Hamilton is $300. The only difference is the face of the watch, and maybe a slightly better leather band. Tag charges more purely for the name attached to it.

I wear a SKX007 daily. It's a great beater, not too worried about it kinda watch. Good entry level auto that won't break the bank. You can dress it up with a metal band (buy aftermarket, the supplied one sucks), wear a NATO strap to dress it down, or buy a leather strap and find a nice medium. I like the rubber band for scuba diving and hospital work(easy cleaning), but I have a NATO on it now.

That being said it depends on what you do for a living/fun. I am a paramedic so a diver works well. A Hamilton or a Orient might work as well.

Glock 43 for size.
>>
>>12447983

There's about £2500 difference between these two watches, friendo. Having said that beauty is in the eye etc so who knows if you'll find a £50 watch attractive.
>>
>>12448510

Can't speak for your taste but I'd go for either the Seiko SARB017 or Hamilton Khaki field automatic at that price. Both are beautiful and seriously good quality for the price.

How's visibility with that variant?
I prefer dark dials, but the polished hands with no reflective angles and the black dial make it very hard to read, at least that's what I see in the display case and in pics. If they beveled the hands a bit more like with grand seiko, perhaps.
Of if they made a model where the indices and hands were painted stark white, that'd be okay.

What's /fa/'s opinion on the brand Movado, in general terms? Asking for my gf. She was given one by an ex like, 10 years ago or something (not sure what model, she has to go look for it). Semi-related question: Is it safe to buy """"jewelry""" on eBay from places like India and China? If they say that they're a particular metal/gemstone, is it likely to be legit? I was thinking of buying a ring from amazon which comes straight from China and the price is only 49 cents without shipping and the reviews are also very good, like 5 stars all over. I'd trust amazon more than ebay usually. the bottom line is that it's normally rather safe if other buyers say so unless the whole page is full of paid shills which i don't think.
>>
>>12455446
These products I'm looking at on eBay are quarter the price of even Amazon. It's not hugely expensive stuff either - I'm just looking to pick up some tie clips and cufflinks, and I want to get a worthwhile metal that'll last a while, rather than stainless steel. Can get things like sterling silver on eBay, still for very cheap.
>>
>>12455478
>Can get things like sterling silver on eBay, still for very cheap.

interesting. well, again if all the others say it's fine, it probably is fine. on top of that it doesn't even matter if the product you get is shit because at least then you know you didn't waste much money on that which is always a good thing if everything goes wrong.

you could also compare if you find the same brand and the same product on amazon too and if they have it and ebay is cheaper, just get the ebay one.

Why the fuck do people pay so much money for a fucking quartz watch? I understand paying money for a watch with an amazing automatic movement, but not this. How does Gucci or any other luxury retailer get people to spend such money on things that aren't even of quality? Are people just that stupid?

>>
>>12457626
Apple watch is about that size isn't it? I was tempted to buy a samsung gear s3 but it is just too big, the s2 was about right but I don't really want to buy old tech.

To me smart watch type things are made to become obsolete so following the fashion of the current time is what they will do because their lifespan is a lot shorter. Were a good watch will last your lifetime and even your kids and their kids lifetimes so a more traditional design makes sense because that will stand the test of time (pun not intended). I don't like the bog watch on small wrist style become it just looks tacky and cheap, it's a bit like wearing jeans or shirts that don't fit well.

Once batteries start becoming smaller I bet there will be a race to make the thinnest smallest smartwatches to show off how cool and great their tech is being able to fit so much in a small package. So I am going to wait until there is a smart watch that ticks all the boxes for me.

yes. it's definitely one of the smaller ones. I'm looking at the pebble 2 and the pebble round right now. Ilike the pebble 2 design. it's sporty and easygoing. these ones are smaller and thinner too. although monochrome screen is kinda uninteresting.

few months ago got my cartier tank stolen, been seving like a mad man to cop the reverso, if my urgence to spend is weaker than my desire for the watch i'll be able to get my hands on it.

>>12458973
I totally see where you're coming from. I just copped my most expensive watch yet, at a whopping $300. I could see spending up to around $1500 if I had a lot of disposable income. Otherwise, $300-400 is my cap. And I make "decent" money for a guy in his late 20's (the definition of "decent" money varies obv).

For people who are spending thousands on watches and AREN'T financially in a position to justify doing so, they obviously don't have their priorities sorted out right.
>>
>>12459574
Get the cheapest Casio, the F91W is a classic and a piece of history 2bh, it may even spark an interest in watches for you, and if it doesn't it was cheap and gets the job done.
Its a hardy durable watch with a lot of features that a lot of people use as a beater watch.

>>12459574
Armani? why would you do that? it's a fashion brand watch. avoid at all costs.

get a Casio watch, yeah.
but instead of getting a F-91w like >>12459948

I don't have anything dressy though.

God I want a snowflake so bad though. The dial is just so perfect. The only thing I would consider other than a Grand Seiko currently is a fully engraved Orion. The only drawback is with my poorfag college budget it would take a really long time to save up enough. If only my unit would fucking deploy. Would make enough to pay off most of my loans, and buy a GS and still have some left over for savings.

Anybody know of watches featuring an 8-hour clock face? Alternatively, although might be ugly as sin, 12-or 24-hour face divided into 3 sections via edges, that is, triangular symmetry?

The bezel is also useful for timing your dive.

But at this point, lots of people who don't dive wear diving watches.

Its useful for quickly seeing a different time zone

Dive watches are also pretty durable which is desirable to a lot of people

If you compare seiko to other fine watch brands they are not expensive. Patek Philipe ranges from a few hundred k to millions. Same for Audemars Piguet, A Lange & Söhne, Cartier Jaeger leCoultre and others.

Between those 2 choices I would go for the casio every day of the week. I have a F91W and use it as my outside yard work watch. If I was in the position to be talking to someone wearing an Armani watch I wouldn't be wearing my beater watch.

If the question was

Timex and Swatch tick so fucking loudly you don't even wanna wear them without having buyer's remorse. I own a standard gent swatch model and it would be a great cheap watch with great movement if only it didn't tick so loudly.

>i heard the watch ticks loudly.

Cheap quartz = audible ticks.

Cheap quartz is also more reliable than the best automatic or manual watch. Those are also more expensive to maintain.

I like both kinds of watch but I found that for a daily watch, high end quartz cuts out the hassle for me. Expect to spend around 100-200 dollars depending on the deal you can find. I really like my Bulova Military high frequency quartz. Not only is that an even more accurate quartz watch (+/- 10sec a YEAR), but the fast ticks gives it a sweeping seconds hand which looks really nice.

It's actually so high frequency it has a smoother seconds hand than most high end mechanical watches.

Only downside? More ticks = frequent battery changes. ~3 years.
>>
>>12471969
>high end quartz
>Expect to spend around 100-200 dollars

Higher end quartz like Seiko F9, Breitling SuperQuartz, or Citizen A660 run 1k+ and onwards. 100-200 bucks will buy really, and I mean really standard "basic" quartz caliber. Reliable, accurate etc but very basic.

Not to even mention Springdrives etc.
>>
>>12471969

The clock in my Peugeot 504 is some electric quartz thing made by Kienzle.

I love the sweeping second hand. It's incredibly smooth.
Actually surprised me when I first saw it.

But it makes a hell of a racket - constant buzzing and clicking relays.
>>
>>12471981
>Higher end quartz

The Bulova is a HFQ, that is a high end quartz technology, the watch is about 130 dollars on Amazon right now.

> run 1k+ and onwards

Yeah you can play this game with anything. "Hurr durr it's not high end if it's not thermocompensated or has solar power." Yeah ok. It's accurate to within seconds a year. Improvements above that level of accuracy is real hairsplitting, especially if you have to adjust for daylight savings it's never going to matter.

> and I mean really standard "basic" quartz caliber

But it's not. The technology is completely different and it's still very affordable. A "really standard basic quartz" is a piece of shit you get in ~30 dollar watches.

I can't believe you're going to be elitist about quartz. Jesus Christ.

>>12471987
>I love the sweeping second hand. It's incredibly smooth.

I really love it. It's a shallow reason as far as liking one watch over another goes, but I find it really satisfying.

Sorry to hear that. I'm a bit allergic to noise and that would bug me. The Military is silent as far as I can tell.

If you ever develop an interest in horology, you'll see how wrong you are. People don't pay $200k for a tourbillon because it looks cool, they do it because the movement is exceptional.

Don't wear a watch.

>>12471969
How can someone unironically endorse quartz in a watch thread? Watches can be more meaningful and engaging than having ten $50 trinkets with no intrinsic value whatsoever. Have some respect.
>>
>>12473070
>don't buy quartz if you care about watches
>don't buy cheap if you don't like watches
If you can't see the value or don't get any joy from a cheaper quartz watch you might not be someone who actually cares about horology.
Swatch for example has watches that are both of these and they are great pieces to add to a collection and wear for fun. Their limited edition ones are also a pretty easy investment to make money off of in the future.
Cheaper Casio watches for example are both of these and are still pieces of horology history and great watches in their own right.

Sure neither hold a candle to a Rolex or any luxury watch but they are fun pieces to have in a collection and fit a different niche and tick different boxes.

>muh beautiful horology muh FEELS *dib*

Very few people care about watch movements. There's nothing wrong with getting a quartz when you consider that it is superior to automatic in nearly every way, more practical, cheaper to own and maintain. And a shitty casio DW5600, f91 or timex can still be enjoyed and have meaning to the wearer.

There is virtually no reason to get an automatic for movement unless you like horology. And autos that cost anywhere less than entry level luxury have little worth
