To the blacks or generally dark skinned people here. How fast do you get even darker from sun exposure? Compared to light skinned people it should take longer to tan, right?

I always had the impression that it takes shorter time for dark skinned people to tan. It's kind of like their skin is already ready to react to sunlight, which means developing more pigment, right?

I would guess it takes longer since the melanin already there will act as natural SPF and protect the skin somewhat from the process that causes skin darkening. Just my guess though.

There is a noticibley darker area on the exposed skin, but it's never much

I don't know if that pic is related but I have the exact skin tone of this girl. It's pretty reactive, just 5 minutes in the intense heat and you're a chocolate chip cookie. Asians in general have very sensitive skin.

I'm mixed race and being in the UK with no sun I feel pale all the time so I never cared about tanning but when I go abroad my skin quickly becomes like a less milky coffee.
With a tan is better imo

It is much faster than a lighter skinned person because there are more melanocytes in the skin.

In summer it takes 30-45 front an back each to start darkenin

Half Thai here.
I step out into the sun for a few hours and afterwards can immediately see a faint difference. Tan too quickly and hate it.
I'm black. I used to darken up a month into the summer when I was a kid. Just from spending time at the pool.
Now the older I get the darker my skin has stayed permanently

i dont know how a tan affects over time. Maybe it just looks like alot has happened because a tan ontop of already dark skin looks amplified.
with that bias, i won't really know. But if i had to give my best guess, we tan pretty fucking quick. melanin within skin literally means we absorb more sunlight than you non melanin having folk.
I'm confused. If you're darker why would you want/need a tan?
