Everyone I see walking around my university has a big honking backpack on their back
In my quest to be ironic I've ditched my backpack for a small black briefcase similar to the one in this picture. Not as useful, but I think it looks professional and kinda cool. Plus it's better for your back, maybe.

I use this 3 way bag from uniqlo. it lets me carry it like a briefcase for short trips, but I can strap it like a backpack if i need to.
