Whats the best way to become a fashion designer coming from an Art/Photography position. I have a few ideas but dont know a thing about pattern making and want to do university or something to learn the skills and mature my designs/aesthetics. Any ideas/advice from fashion graduates. UK anon here.

Its a good combination of technical and creative work. I suppose wanting to make my own clothing has a little bit to do with it.
One of my friends is studying at the London school of design (I think that was the name) and he sounds pretty happy of his choice
Have you looked into a foundation course, they do them at colleges and universities. Depending on where you go- you can try out and learn the basics in many different areas of art and figure out what you like the best. More competitive fashion degree courses will want you to have done a foundation anyway.

It seems central saint martins or any london school is the best for fashion design. They can get you into shows and talking to the right people. I dunno how possible moving to london would be though.

not a fashion grad but i got a degree in the fine arts now i do both, but mostly fine arts.
its all about the connections you make if you want to make it in the industry but school is great to learn about the process and network

it's stupidly expensive but the fashion design program at SF Academy of Art is supposed to be pretty good

also it's easy to get in - you don't really need a portfolio unless you want to be placed in more advanced courses
