Is there something to be understood about a drawing of a pear with no context?

Getting a tattoo for the first time. Is it a good idea to have an idea of what you want and then let the artist sketch out some shit? How does it work? I feel like they hate copying existing designs.

Yeah. If you don't have a specific image in mine, go to an artist that you know is good and ask them to sketch it out. If you like it, go for it. If it isn't what you want, either ask them to sketch it again with more specificity or go to a different artist.
