Surprised to see the UK copying us with the plain packaging thing. It doesn't work though.

The main reason smoking is on the decline here (2.2% since plain packaging) is because taxes on cigarettes has jumped enormously. In around 5 years a pack of Winfield 25s went from ~$16 AUS to $28. The price increase has been less for budget brands.

Most smokers I know are switching to RYO, but even then 50g packs are around the $50-60 AUD mark.
