I probably wouldn't recommend getting a PhD unless you actually cannot picture your life without it. Live life, be young, work shitty jobs and follow a passion.

I enjoyed my time in the military but my life has been so flip-floppy and I feel completely lost.
I'm really interested in the fashion industry and I've been steadily building up the capital required to get something rolling but I'm worried about failure. This fear of failure is only amplified by my unremarkable life compared
to other designers who've attended prestigious art schools etc.

I don't even know what I want to do anymore.
I thought I'd be happy making the money I do now but I feel like it has only served to compound my feelings of inadequacy due to the fact that I now have the means to begin projects but no longer have the drive to do so.

Rick Owens dropped out of a private art school and started at the bottom as a pattern maker. Now he's a meme. Whether you start at the bottom or at the top you need to start. Failure is a very real possibility but that's just something you have to come to grip with. I gave up medical school to pursue network engineering. I don't know if I'll make anything of myself but I knew I wouldn't be happy in medicine.
