If you want recs, provide as many criteria as possible: including sex, price range, seasons/weather, occasions, other frags/notes/accords you like/dislike, special conditions i.e. can easily be found in mall department stores, other ephemera i.e. personal style/aura you want to project, etc...

Hey guys, how do those of you that own Aventus justify it's price ? I mean I love it, so far it's the only perfume that got me compliments ( like people actually interrupting me to say it suits me really good ) , but I never spent so much on a perfume and I fear that I'll end it too quick.

Else, if anyone has a recommendantion, I'm a 20yo male, around $100, that can be worn all year round ... I like original fragrances, and to me ( even if it sounds stupid ) the bottle design really matters since it's a part of the perfume identity ( and also because I'm a designer so .. yeah. ). I used to wear The One by D&G, and Zadig & Voltaire for Him. And if it matters I'm wearing a mix of avant-garde and japanese designer clothes. Thanks to anyone that will answer one of those questions !
>>
>>12299407
Not sure four bottles and some deodorant qualifies as a "collection" per se. The Porsche is a non-fragrance and the YSL / Dior are common memes. You're at a better starting point than the guy who pops in and asks which Old Spice scent is most patrician, but you're still very much at the start.
>>
>>12299557
http://www.parfumsvintage.com/parfume-shop
The only Aventus clone that can compete with the real thing, and it's on sale right now for $85. I recommend the standard version over the Noir.

For perspective, I have a coworker who wears Aventus daily and I have personally owned two bottles of the stuff so I am very familiar with the genuine article. After I copped PV, I gave a sample vial of it to a different coworker to get opinions, but forgot I had done so. On a day where Aventus guy was out of the office I started catching whiffs of Aventus in the halls, which I thought was strange. I then realized that the scent was coming from coworker B. He confirmed that he was wearing PV, which blew me away because it was straight up identical.

Longevity is next-day.

>>12299578
Shill
>>12299557
Don't bother with clones of anything. You're just going to be comparing it to the real thing and it's not the same.
If you liked DnG the one you could try la nuit de l'homme, they are in the same genre and it smells fantastic plus I've heard the newer batches have better performance
Another super versatile classic is bleu de chanel worth checking out
>>
>>12299587
Bondfag actually.
If someone recommends LY they're not a shill but if you share experiences with a Creed knockoff you're a shill. Hmm!
>>
>>12299578
>>12299557
Also, Cedrat Boise and Scent of Peace fH are both great alternatives that I personally reach for before Aventus. The Mancera is especially nice in winter and fall due to its sweetness, while the Bond is crisp, better suited for the spring and summer.

Can I get a rec? I'm 18M and I've been wearing hermes eau de pamplemousse rose and it's really nice it's just not very strong. Price isn't really an issue I'd just rather not pay parfums mdci level prices. I guess I'm looking for a springtime scent something feminine but not too sweet. I sample invasion barbare it was good but my mother described it as a "barber shop" scent I think I agree. I have a habit of internet rambling.
>>
>>12299801
Man dont listen to him. Anyone who says "that's a meme" is a straight loser in real life. Ive smelled l homme on one person and DP on no one ever. Most people under 25 spray axe or at most wear armani or polo.
>>
>>12300786
This. Fragheads tend to vastly overestimate how many people actually wear fragrances, particularly higher-end or niche scents. Even shit like One Million, which is basically THE meme club scent, I've only smelled a handful of times.

The truth is, most dudes have a bottle of something cheap, probably a gift from their girlfriend/wife, or just bought whatever the lady at the fragrance counter told him smelled good on him. Probably 1% of people actually know fragrances well enough to pick out a particular scent on another person.

Wear whatever you like.

I'm sort of new to thinking about my fragrance, so I'd like to ask a few questions in order to base my knowledge.

For years I've been using Acqua di Parma Colonia. It smells nice right out of the shower, but it doesn't last and I'm left wanting more later on.

(FYI I use plain Ivory soap, and Toms unscented deodorant, so I have a clean base.)

When I got the AdP years ago, I also got a generous sample atomizer of Hermes Eau de Mandarin Ambre. I really love this, and use it for special occasions, and travelling because it's a tiny bottle. I might switch to it full time, but I'm worried that since it's a newer formulation, it might be dropped if it's not popular. How often do fragrances become discontinued?

I've always heard that scent is closely tied to memory, and I definitely like when someone I know smells a familiar way. Because of this, I'd like to keep my "collection" as minimal as possible, ideally having just one signature scent. I'd hate to pick one and years later find out it's no longer available.

Captain America - Patriot
This just seems like a solid scent. It's pleasing and simple. Good for any occasion and I don't think anyone could object to it. An all around good smell, definitely fits Captain America.

Iron Man - Mark IV
Honestly, it's a lot like Patriot. That's not necessarily bad, they are both really good smells, but its the kind of smell I would expect from a cologne. Elegant and confident. Just like Iron Man

Hulk - Be Angry
This is one they really did something different with. It's a strong smell that really evokes the word "powerful". I cannot think of a better way to describe it. It's also a good smell, but quite different. A good smell for Hulk.

Thor - Worthy
This one might actually be my favorite. It smells very much like a forest. The "Woody Citrus", as the maker describes it, is definitely there, and what I like is that it makes me think of masculinity, which really fits Thor well.

Bump?

If I want a signature scent, should I worry if it might get discontinued?

Thoughts on Hermes eau de mandarin ambree?

How would you classify above, and also Eau Savage EdC, and Parfum?
>>
>>12302597
Fragrance is already a paranoid and neurotic hobby, so I hate to stoke fears further. However, reformulation happens and fragrances are discontinued all the time. If you are going to stick to a single signature scent, it is a good idea to buy one or two backup bottles.
>>
>>12302641
Thanks. My big concern was should I go in for something like the Hermes, which is not a flagship fragrance, and has only been out since 2013, or try to find something with a pedigree like Eau Sauvage.

I prefer Eau Extreme but that's mainly because I have Versace Pour Homme which smells very similar to to Allure Homme Sport, just more transparent. I would suggest sampling the Versace and seeing how you like it because it's less than half the price of the Chanel and, at least for me, performs better. Eau Extreme is also more a Spring/Summer night fragrance for me, the dominant Tonka makes it a little too cloying in the heat

eau noire

when it comes to something as primal as the sense of smell I really dont think it's something you can develop by training it. your brain likes it or it doesnt. some of my favorites niche frags you will have a neutral/bad opinion of them, even if they are very well blended.
>>
>>12304852

It depends. Do you live in a urban, trendier area or in bumfuck nowhere? Because Sauvage is overplayed as shit so while it may be a compliment grabber you will smell like literally every other 15-20 year old.

Personally, if you are over 20 I would suggest BdC EDP over either of those, unless projection is king for you, because it is a much more mature scent. Both BdC and Sauvage really do scream "teenager".

Yeah I am in my middle twenties and I don't really have to worry about smelling like other guys. You could say I am in a grade better then bumfuck nowhere.

I will try the EdP and then decide. I generally like more subdued fragrances.

>>12305566

I know. I just want a scent I can wear during summer that I know it will work. I am aiming at "bland" since all other fragrances I have are the opposite and not really versatile. So I decided I need one like this.

i dont know about that dude most of the stuff I like I liked instantly when I found them it didnt take me years to finally appreciate them. sorry but i think licorice smells like shit. i didnt like mushrooms back when i was a kid and i still dont.

my favorite frags so far are black aoud by montale (favorite), invasion barbare and tilda swinton just because of how accurately it reminds me of a redhead female, but not something i would wear. honorable mention to escentric molecule. yeah sure there are many other good concept fragrances but per se they dont smell so good. licorice is GARBAGE and it smells like garbage.

I'd prefer a night smell, summer or spring masculine or fresh scent.
I'm new to frags so I don't know much. I use Drakkar Noir which fits me well I think. and I got reveal by calvin klein to test which really doesn't suit me at all. I lift and I'm into military fashion, tight fitting t shirts etc. I'd prefer something strong enough for the people close to me to notice but not something that draws attention. buzzed long undercut if that matter. Will mostly wear at pool halls. rather have something somewhat unique

I really like this in theory, but it just smells too boozy on me, to the extent that someone asked me how much I drank the night before when I wore it out once. Also the Margiela pump distributes about 1.5x the amount that comes out of a regular atomizer and that throws me off.

21/M/London where it's warming up a bit, truly feeling like spring

Interested in a fragrance I can wear at work for spring/summer in a casual-ish tech environment.

I'm not really looking for an expensive niche fragrance as I'm new to this, ideally it would be fragrances I could get samples from
http://www.perfumista.co.uk/ to try out

As for me I'm a pretty quiet reserved guy, even for tech it seems.

>>
>>12307671
Get out into the local perfume shops / higher end department stores and don't be shy about telling the associates that you're just sampling because you are into fragrance as a hobby. Many sales associates will be happy to talk shop with someone who is interested in learning or to speak with another experienced nose. The balance of their day is likely going to be spent getting ignored / treated badly by shit mall customers anyway. You might be one of their shift's better interactions.
>>
>>12307656
TN is a good 90% clone of GIT (easily identifiable herbal lemon verbena opening), but understand that it doesn't last nearly as long and that its development is correspondingly brief. Its performance can be described as CK does GIT.

>>12307509
I just buy from sellers with high positive feedback (10k+). Read recent reviews to determine whom you trust.

>>12307604
Encre Noire is comprised of a high percentage of Iso E Super, but it also contains other notes (vetiver and cypress, plus cashmeran). It is definitely not the same as Molecule 01, which is a single note "perfume" containing only Iso E Super.

Should your frag match the color/silhouette of your fit? Like if I'm wearing a largely slim and brightly colored outfit should I put on a light and exciting scent? In contrast, if I'm wearing a darker fit should I put on something heavier and woody/musky to match it?

>or am I looking too far into it?
>>
>>12308489
not necessarily, fragrances should match the season/weather.

however, outfits tend to follow this as well, so it kind of just matches by incident. colors aren't a huge deal.

Fragrance newbie here. Went to a perfume shop recently and most were just too sweet and/or chemical like. I quite liked miumiu + Dior addict (blue bottle vers.) though. Price doesn't matter too much, as it will be the only one I'll use for now.
Looking for an interesting, floral, woody scent. Long lasting but not overpowering. Maybe something unisex would work? Again, I don't really know what I'm talking about so I'm open to suggestions.

Holy shit this has some beastly performance on my skin.

I tried it at around 6 pm, one spray from a tester. The next day at 8 pm I could still smell it really good as a skin scent, after 2 hours of an intense basketball session and a shower. The next day again, at 1 pm still feels like a skin scent and at 1.30 pm after half an hour in the gym it got activated again from the sweat I guess and it started projecting again after like 30 hours. Insane.

Also, recommend me a fragrance to switch from this. Something that smells clean and makes me feel like an elegant mischievous bastard. Bonus if affordable.
>>
>>12311826
Yeah, that's what fragrance designers do because they're assholes. If a frag becomes popular, they jack up the price. The 24 line was like 30 bucks a couple years back, now they're like 80. Creed is already expensive, and they're raising their prices because "their fragrances have gone too mainstream and they want them to seem more exclusive".

Bunch of dickheads.

Yeah, but it also means I have to pay way more for MI, Royal Water, Erolfa, Royal Oud, etc. I don't really give a fuck if people are wearing Aventus, it's not like tons of dudes are wearing Creeds to begin with, given the price point and the fact that most people don't know fragrances well enough to think dropping that kind of money is worth it.

Either way, it's sheer greed and it's bullshit.

I am now getting concerned if I will ever get rid of this. One shower and 20 hours later, I couldn't really smell it on my wrist anymore BUT after I went to the gym, my body heat/sweat activated it again and now I can fucking smell it clear on my wrist and even projects so that I smell it when I am not directly smelling my wrist.

Sampled:
Versace pour homme - really does smell a lot like CAHS, nice smell, might cop a small bottle and see how I like it in practice

Bvlgari Aqva Amara - kinda nice, would love to try this in a very hot summer day. Bitter orange and watery notes, its kinda "dark" even. Not what I would have expected from aquatic scent. Might buy cheapo 50ml bottle from sale if I can find it.

Hermes Voyage d'Hermes - Didnt like the opening, too sweet and sharp lemon. But as it went on it started to remind me of lighter summery Terre d'hermes. Its marketing is pretty accurate, a traveling scent, remind me of walking around in an summery historic city or on the beach boulevards. Might want to sample again if I were ever to care enough to buy.

Shadilay everyone <3 Just found a perfume I remember my sister getting me in later 2013-14 its been stored in a cupboard so I assume that it hasn't spoiled, it smells better than anything else I own, definitely a true chypre to me that hasn't been mangled by the IFRA. It lasted about 16-17 hours on my first wear so I guess its been untouched by heat or light. I hope someone also has this so they can fill me in on it, she got it from a boutique in London I think but she told me to save it for a bit so recently I thought I should try it out. I really love the oakmoss, it reminds me of the perfumes my family would wear when I was small and there is something that smells very strangely animalic but sweet almost at the same time in the dry down. Out of interest does anyone have any vintage pre-moss ban chypres that they would like to share their thoughts about?

newby to perfume and cologne. need some recommendations. I'm 23 male and I work for fed government. I need something not too strong to offend others but lasts for a while. I also need something to capture the curiosity of females.

You're going to have to give us more information. What is the weather usually like where you are? What do you want to smell like?

I like both of these, I'm not sure if the Hermés can be bought in the US, I got it in the Paris store. Are they too feminine?

What are your thoughts on By The Fireplace? It is a toss up that, Jazz Club, or Bleu de Chanel for my next full size bottle.

trash it

I bought it purely as a joke. Cost me like 12.00. Just thought it was too funny not to buy, really.

Why do scents become discontinued? Is it because they aren't popular enough?

Honestly, pretty generic freshy. Citrus, cucumber, mint, basil, vetiver, some woods, peppery notes. Nothing particularly interesting or sophisticated. Doesn't smell bad, but smells about what you'd expect a 12.00 bottle to smell like.

Pretty sure the Donald had basically nothing at all to do with it other than slapping his name on it.

So apparently the new La nuit de l'homme eau electrique is a bubblegum-y versace eros/invcitus sort of thing which is a fucking massive let down. I hate those kinds of frags.

gonna work for CBP as an AG Specialist. have to chose between Seattle, new orleans, or Vermont. I'm not a citrus guy but anything that keeps me from smelling like soap over too overly mature. prefer a fresh and young scent.

that campaign photo is godawful, shame on loreal for not letting hedi take over the house name to make frags

Smells nothing like memoir man. Smells very much like Chergui by Serge Lutens, sweet rounded. Is slightly drier, sharper mint, can smell the anise-like wormwood more than memoir man. Dry down smells like the perfume section of a mall. Mid was good, opening and dry down not good. Lasts a long time.

If its the OG 2013 batch, you should totally save it for when the perfumer dies or something and resell it to a sheik for like 100K

Recently sampled Acqua di Parma Colonia Essenza and really like it. I want to explore a bit more for a "warm weather" fragrance and was wondering if there were similar frags out there? Fragrantica is telling me it's just Neroli Portofino Forte but I'm not a big fan of the regular Neroli Portofino anyways so would appreeciate any recs
>>
>>12323278
aventus, bleu, sauvage, acqua di gio, versace in that order
>>
have a batch of 20 samples on the way, mostly mfk and heeley. loved aqua univ. forte, lumiere noire (can't believe how much i'm into light florals rn), and sel marin, so i'm reupping those samples and expanding into the lines. am so close to buying those bottles though.

>>12301978
i like it despite my anti-designer snobbery. elena is magic. i feel alive the second it hits my skin. want to try the parfum and fraiche before considering a bottle though.

>>12304328
eau noire is my scent for small mountain towns in fall/winter, or the scent that takes me there. absolutely love it. tried wearing it in a little warmer weather and it was all wrong. it's special to me, but it's only for a specific time and place. cold air, melting snow, wet streets, morning sunshine, shadows... new haarlem is the warmth inside the bakery/breakfast place in town, eau noire is everything in the air around it.

>>12305371
i loved black from the first moment i tried it. i literally only wear it in december though. just feels wrong to wear any other time. it's black christmas. would take me literally 25 years to go through a bottle though.

>>12305528
recently gave them another sniff, and i'm honestly impressed by bdc. i'm too much of a snob to wear it though. wouldn't worry about performance; was recently testing a couple perfumes, but could still smell a sample of bdc from my wastebasket across the room.

>>12305815
it's a nice cozy/smoky/sweet fall/evening fragrance, but i find it a bit cloying after a couple hours. try a sample of frank no.3 if you want a sweet tobacco without the booze.

>>12305924
tam dao, santal 33, vetiver tonka. i like kyoto very much, but it feels more fall/winter to me, but maybe that's a personal association.

>>12315274
love the lush/gorilla branding, will never buy without sampling, and you can't seem to get samps in the states, so they basically don't exist to me.

>>12315746
sunscreen is the perfect summer fragrance.
>>
>>12315676
as i just mentioned, if you're working outdoors or near the beach, sunscreen is the perfect fragrance. if you want something to smell natural, you could try sel marin for an bright and airy seaweedy smell.

>>12319174
nice sister.

>>12320247
by the fireplace is much more feminine than jazz club; it's really sweet and edible, like eating a cookies by...the...fireplace. seems more fitting for a 16-23 year old girl in winter. get jazz club if you want something for cooler evenings, get bleu de chanel if you want something you can just about wear anytime/anywhere.

>>12320490
yes.

>>12322415
i don't like sauvage or eau sauvage, but that bottle makes me want to try it.

>>12307034
love the monocle bottles, that one especially, but am lukewarm about all three frags. last time i checked, i preferred sugi.

>>12302651
well there's the dilemma, right? if you pick a classic, you'll always be able to find a bottle but you'll smell like a million other people. and even so, like >>12302641 said, the smell will change as the formula is tweaked as the decades roll by, so the specific scent attached to all your memories may not be available unless you buy a bunch to refrigerate and stash away.

a more healthy alternative is to just buy something you love right now, something that fits you perfectly in this moment. wear it, enjoy it, attach memories to the smell... and if you associate it with times you want to remember, when the bottle gets low, and put it away, save it somewhere. then decide if you want to continue on with it as your signature, or if you'd like to move on, letting each new fragrance essentially contain chapters of your life in its bottle.

this is why the idea of a signature scent bothers people so much. the whole point of having one is not having to think about it, yet people with signature scents obsess and overthink it to a ridiculous degree.

What scentless antiperspirant do you use?
>>
I really like this one.
How do you feel about it?
Anything similar?
>>
>>12325581
Are you a britfag? I can't find a scentless antiperspirant anyway
>>
>>12325587
versace pour homme and geir ness are very similar
versace pour homme has arguably worse longevity/projection but can be had for about 1/4th the price per ML.
geir by geir ness is a bit more on the floral side but no longevity or projection issues
>>
Going to a friend's place out of town tonight, gonna go round the town and have some drinks
Should I wear: la nuit de l'homme (only have enough for about 1 wearing left), versace pour homme, ch men prive, adg profumo, DnG the one?
