Thanks for the advice pals, that pic was just a quick presentation pic, not going to do tapered stuff. Colours are quite hard to match perfectly with someone else's patch as it differs slightly with manufacturers, and of course pictures aren't colourwise 100% accurate.
I'll keep you updated if I can design something not similar to ID patch.

You'll need an embroidery hoop, a needle, some sort of fabric (I used a scrap from the clearance section called curtain liner, but I'm sure just plain old cotton/linen will work, nothing too thick!), and embroidery thread.

To start off, I picked a simple design, printed it off, and traced it onto my fabric with a pencil. After that, sandwich your fabric in the embroidery hoop to keep it taut. Then I just started filling it in with a satin stitch. I would recommend splitting your embroidery thread if your design is small or has finer details. My thread was actually 6 smaller strings wound together, so I pulled them apart so I had two sets of 3 strings.

That makes it more bland imo. The multiple rows give a subtle suggestion that the words are extra meaningful, which makes it even more ironic. I like it like that. The main things I would change would be to move the top and bottom rows of text down just a tad to give it more balance and breathing room, and also maybe try a cooler color like baby blue so that it doesn't look so muddled. That being said, I love the concept.

Protip: try not to give it to other makers. Wait for them to ask for a trade, or ask for one yourself. Give it to who you think are patch enthusiasts. They're more likely to post pics of it alongside other patches. These pics usually end up in other maker's tagged images and gives you wider exposure.
