Fuck off back to redit
Have any of you wondered if there's some cultural reason why the majority of the population dresses in clothing that either is sporting / military attire or has been copied from it, whereas before people tried to look as formal as possible even in non-formal settings?
I know formal style got much more simplistic and less flashy during and after WW2 because of the shortage of cloth, metals etc. and people probably wore their military stuff for the same reason.
Is that still influencing it today or is it because the next generation basically aped the generation that was being simplistic out of necessity to the point where dressing non-formally became the norm and fashionable and not just a necessity?
>>12269154
>formal
>not military inspired
Do you have any idea what a suit is and where it comes from?
great thread

the gap between rich and poor was also the gap between the intelligent and the stupid, because only the rich could afford an education.
For many their military uniform was also their best set of clothes, and this became the inspiration for the suit, the dress shirt, the tie, and many other fashion staples (boots, hats, high socks).

explained to you
In public everyone wanted to appear intelligent and wealthy because it conferred to them a higher status and respect, so you would take the time to sharpen yourself up and look presentable in public.
We live today in a very affluent and abundant society, and overall social norms and decorums have relaxed. We are not at pre-fall Rome levels where people are fucking in the streets and children are being abandoned and form gangs that rob people, but clearly we are a civilization in decline and decay. Fat ugly people with no sense of self-respect and too much wealth relative to the rest of the world with very little sense of how it was gained (military strength and exploitation of the third world) and what it will cost (mass social instability will follow shortly as climate change forces billions of refugees out of Africa and Asia into the developed nations).
This is why this thread is he "peak" of western fashion, and you have a sense of appreciation for the style and attitude of many of these people. They were people hungry to climb, a nation rising out of the ashes of WWI and WWII, rebuilding, recovering, tired, thin, and proud.

You like Spengler, Anon? If you haven't read any of the work of Oswald Spengler, you should check him out. He wrote extensively on the decline of western civilization and influenced everyone from Heidegger to Wittgenstein to even Adorno. He was also an influence on Mussolini and the Nazis but fell out of favor with the latter for vehemently rejecting antisemitism and biological conceptions of race. Spengler was a brilliant prophet. Anyone who wants to understand what's wrong with the Occident today should read his work.
>>12268655

The plot is shit though, desu
Typical Antonioni, great photo and no fucking sensible story at all.
>>12275318
couldn't disagree more
the story was odd... and intereseting, scary at times but maybe that's just me
>>12274598
I also want to know this desu
Did they just hide all the good looking women in cupboards before 1980 or something, was it illegal to photograph a decent-looking woman?
>>12268655
I support the idea of this thread, but there is no coherent style depicted here. There are also no examples of how these clothes could be implemented today in a fit. General aesthetic threads work for palewave, because people already know how it should look and want to be inspired on top of that.
As it is right now, this is nothing more than escapism, what's worse - it's /r/OldSchoolCool.
>>12276857
palewave is a fucking joke and you have no taste
