If you want recs, provide as many criteria as possible: including sex, price range, seasons/weather, occasions, other frags/notes/accords you like/dislike, special conditions i.e. can easily be found in mall department stores, other ephemera i.e. personal style/aura you want to project, etc...

I just wanted to say that I appreciate these threads. I don't wear colognes or anything too often but I got a couple of samples in the mail right now and I'm excited to try them. The fragrance thread is consistently one of the most helpful places on /fa/. Enjoy the rest of your day, anons.

CH Prive is very sweet to me. I really don't get a leather jacket vibe at all. Only reason would be because Jeremy fragrance said it does.
>>
>>12238508
Oh really? After the top fades it literally smells like a leather jacket in a bottle to me
It's weird not many people get the prominent leather like I do from it, makes me wonder if my bottle wasn't stored correctly or something
>>
>>12238535
Not that anon, but if you read frag forums/reviews enough you discover that people's noses are wildly different oftentimes. One person can say a note dominates a frag while another can barely detect it. In my case, I consider Guerlain Vetiver a tobacco scent, as for most of its progression on me that is the strongest note I get. I have an older ribbed bottle, but not everyone gets that from those.
>>
Bought some samples during the last thread. Here are my opinions on them

>Hermes Eau Mandarine Ambree
This was the best of the bunch. It smells like dreamsicle, but more...elegant. I want to say there's a little spiciness to it, but I might just be imagining it. If a warm, creamy orange frag sounds good to you, definitely check this out.

>Thierry Mugler A*Men Pure Malt
I liked this more than I thought I would. I was afraid it would smell more boozy, like actual whiskey. Or the type of boozy in Kiste, which I don't like. Pretty nice. Strangely fresh.

>Chanel Allure Homme Sport
Not sure why this one gets high praise. Even compared to other designer fresh, "sport" frags, this was kind of underwhelming.

>Creed Millesime Imperial
It's a nice fruity frag, but that's about it. Not worth its price tag in my opinion.

>Acqua Di Parma Colonia Leather
If you can't get Tuscan Leather or Rasai La Yuqawam Homme, this is a good alternative. This has citrus rather than raspberry, but really, it just has a sweet leather smell that TL also has. Occasionally a little citrus will peek through.

>Tom Ford Plum Japonais
No thanks. I don't like plum and I don't like oud much, so I'm not sure why I even gave this a shot. Kind of has an old person incense perfume note in it.
>>
>>12237827
Such classical and mature taste. Manly through and through. Since I'm too lazy to track down vintage bottles and also generally suspicious of their contents, which current formulations of classic scents can you recommend? The IFRA neutering of some old favorites (and reformulation in general) has made me suspicious of anything released prior to ~2010.
>>
>>12239063
While I do own and enjoy all kinds of frags, including some marketed towards women, I guess my heart lies with men's powerhouses. And while I own many vintage bottles, I think I ended up paying about or actually less than retail value of the current versions in most cases. If I ever ran out of one and I were unable to find a vintage replacement for a non-ridiculous price, I think I'd be happy with the current versions of:

Antaeus
Fahrenheit
Havana

as they all smell close enough with minor, to me, differences. Now, my reference point for "current" is a few years ago. If there has been a reformulation of these in the last few years, I'm unaware.

Now for:

Kouros
Egoiste
Polo

I feel that my vintage bottles are superior enough to the current versions that I'd spend a little more (maybe 50% more) to get a vintage bottle. Luckily, I don't think I'll be running out of any of these any time soon. And frankly, I'd rather have the current versions than none at all.

And I have not smelled current versions of, so can't comment on:

Guerlain Vetiver

Depends on if you like it or not. I like it a lot, but I'm not you.

I'm female, 19, I'm looking for a new scent for the spring. I wear more fruity/sweet scents. In the summer I usually wear tropical scents (my go to is coconut sunset from bath and bodyworks.) and i used pumpkin cupcake, also from b&b, all fall.

id say my price range is around $20 or less, and the only fragrance I really cant stand is really floral stuff.
>>
>>12240480
Really depends on whether you like vetiver. You did fuck up a bit in case extreme was available and you went with sport instead, otherwise a good pick.
>>
>>12238070
I normally buy blind because getting an accurate understanding of a scent is nearly impossible when you are surrounded with other perfumes etc. The last time I went out bottle sniffing my goal was to become familiar with the Dior Collection Privée and cop my favorite. After a full half hour of spraying mouilleuttes, none of the scents really stood out over the others. So I went with plan B and bought the one I would have copped blindly. Luckily for me Patchouli Imperial develops and dries down so nicely.

I had the same experience as you the first time getting to try the Prive line - nothing really stood out to me except for Oud Ispahan which stood out far too much; it was the height of summer in the London, so about 30 centigrade and it was just too much. It's possibly been reformulated since then, but definitely warrants getting a sample so you can spend some time with it.

>w2c samples

I tried ordering some from TPC and STC and they've been good to me, but I'm in Europe and the shipping is a pain.

Highly recommend Skins.nl for Yuros. 15 EUR for 5 samples, all samples cost the same, samples are about 1.5 ml a piece in a spray bottle (cheapest options on decant sites are 0.5ml in dropper bottles).

It's pretty competitive pricing, they have less of a selection than the decant sites, fewer brands overall but all high end brands really. Plus you get a voucher for your 15 EUR as a discount on anything you buy from them later.

This is my latest cop from them and I bought a candle to get free shipping (shipping to Sweden is 15 EUR so I basically got a sample set for free).
>>
>>12242595
I copped YSL Mon Paris recently. It's a sweet fruitchouli with main notes of raspberry, strawberry, pear, peony, and musk. It remains sweet and lasts overnight easily. Get the Sephora girls to make you a sample vial.
Pricing is $122 for the 3 oz bottle, less for the smaller ones. Macy's has a 3 oz plus 1 oz 2pc gift set for $130 (both EdP) if you like the scent.
>>
>>12242595

Bal D'Afrique by Byredo has a nice sweetness and lasted longer than most of my samples, but we're talking a few hours with these scents, not all day.

Copped this at the local L'Occitane store yesterday. Absolute steal at the $58 / 100ml price. Warm, sweet, and masculine. Niche quality, natural smelling juice. Commonly compared to Tobacco Vanille, but more complex to my nose.

going to go to visit my go-to fragrance store next week.

I want to check out Bond No9 scents as I can't recall ever trying one and I don't think I've ever noticed someone wearing one.

Which ones are worth checking out?
I really enjoy Creed by Aventus, Pi by Givenchy and Eros by Versace

weak beta mindset, gotta project your scent. 3 sprays of black orchid behind the neck and one on top of hand
>>
>>12249421
Bondfag here (currently at 22 full bottles from the line). As you enjoy Aventus, start with The Scent of Peace fH and Bleecker Street. I also strongly recommend that you sniff New York Patchouli and New York Oud. If you enjoy Creed Green Irish Tweed but find it a bit too stuffy for casual wear, Chez Bond might make you smile. The house "Cologne", Eau de New York, is pretty distinctive as well.

Chinatown is a good sniff, though you probably won't want to wear it. Disregard the new release Sutton Place as it's boring. For fun, get a spray of Soho on each wrist as you leave the counter. That stuff has nuclear projection and lasts 18 hours.

>>12249456
Andy Warhol line was discontinued a while back when the contract expired.

>1 spray, distribute between wrists,

This is so retarded. I really don't know why people are adamant about the "dab on the wrist" shit.
>>
>>12250477
Spreading / rubbing the fragrance just encourages the top notes to wear off quickly so that you fast forward to the drydown. I don't do it and agree that it's a retarded practice for most fragrances. But for perfumes with nasty openings it can be helpful.

Thinking of buying egoiste from chanel too
>>
>>12251852
I sniffed Platinum Egoiste a few times at the mall lately and will probably cop a 100ml of that one sometime soon. I also like Chanel Chance Eau Fraiche, marketed as feminine but perfectly unisex. Green and almost Mugler Cologne-ish. Not to be mistaken for the numerous other Chance flankers.

I like them a lot. Their customer service is very good. Very personal. They really do sssm to appreciate their customers. Good selection, shipping costs and times are reasonable. They usually throw in a couple free random samples too.

I'd recommend them.
>>
Might be an odd request, but I'm looking for a fragrance without a chemically smell. I have a very sensitive nose, and overly strong, fake smelling colognes smell horrible to me.

I've tried natural essential oil based fragrances, and they smell really good to me, but unfortunately they don't last longer than an hour or two and have no projection.

>>12255998
Are you >>12247426 ?
Do you prefer it to the original?
>>
>>12256242
I love all three, if I had to rank them it would be Intense > Parfum > Original

The Original to me is excellent but subjectively cocoa is something I don't want to smell like. It's not a bad smell, just too gourmandy for my taste.

Intense is simply sublime, the iris is a little lipsticky in the first 30 minutes but after that it just evolves to blend with the pear to make the most wonderful sweet scent.

Parfum is a scent that I love, but probably won't buy because it really can't be worn in non-formal situations. The leather in this makes it a standoffish scent - where Intense invites people to come snuggle, parfum is like a wall between you and other people.
>>

That is goddamn peculiar.
>>
>>12256323
Good insight, I like your perspective.
I bought the original a couple of years ago and I'm probably 3/4 of the way through, will buy Parfum when I'm done with it.

If you like the Dior Homme line (in case you've not stumbled upon it yet) Valentino Uomo and Uomo intense are very similar, and a few people even prefer them.

>No explanation has been given yet, but travel and a push into travel retail may be part of the reason. 120 ml bottles are too big for IATA international airline carry-on regulations that were first launched as a result to an attempt to bomb Northwest Airlines Flight 253, an Airbus A330 flying from Amsterdam to Detroit on Christmas 2009, with liquids. Then, 100 ml/3.4 oz (or less) liquids that can fit in a 1-quart/liter bag became the global standard for carry-ons, and Issey Miyake (among others) started selling new releases in 50/100 ml instead of the previous 75/125 ml.

I'm visiting NY (Brooklyn/Manhattan) in the Spring and wondering where some good places would be to find deals on cologne?

Lately I've been wearing CdG Hinoki and CdG Standard (woody scents), so may want something similar.. with better lasting power.

I mostly just got a bunch of random samples. Some of their stuff smells very nice, though it's pretty different. Very, very niche. Probably not really wearable for every day, but you wanted dark and gothic, they're the epitome of that. They're very esoteric scents so many of them are things you probably would only want to wear at home or when you're in the mood for them.

Just go their site, see if anything looks interesting. Keep in mind, their samples are 1ml, and their full bottles are 5ml, and they're oils, so you only need to apply a very small amount. Plus, they're very generous with freebies. I think when I ordered they threw in like 15 random free samples. Just buy a sample of whatever piques your interest, really.

Nice, I've been thinking about getting either pour monsieur or Guerlain Vetiver. Still can't decide between the two since they're such different beasts--PM with the nuttiness and sweetness, Guerlain Vetiver with the sharpness and lack of sweetness and kind of burnt-rubber drydown.

I own regular egoiste and enjoy it a lot--I would definitely recommend it, especially if you like the mild sweetness you find in pour monsieur but want a cinnamon. At the very least it's worth sampling. Platinum Egoiste is okay, but regular Egoiste blows it out of the water in my opinion.

Nice to see a fellow Chanel enthusiast in here. Currently own Egoiste and Antaeus and loving both.

Like Antaeus, normal Egoiste doesn't seem to be commonly available at mall fragrance counters in the Los Angeles area, so I haven't had the chance to sniff them yet. I'll find them someday.
>>
>>12269726
Dunno what area of LA you live in, but when I used to live up there I tried out Egoiste and Antaeus at the Santa Monica Nordstrom's. Previously I had tried to find just normal Egoiste at Macy's but I guess that's too posh for Macy's (even though regular and platinum Egoiste are priced the same on Chanel's website). I think they have a Sak's in that same complex, too, if you're interested in trying out other frags.

Armani Code is decent, it's a pleasing scent and has a nice base.
If you're from the UK, though, you smell this stuff EVERYWHERE.
The top and mid also smell pretty artificial.
It was my first fragrance and I liked it, but as my nose developed it lost its appeal.

Looking for a frag that smells like this
>>
Is this the best old spice scent?
>>
Never wore anything, but I wanted to get into this stuff so what would be some good entry level fragrances for casual wear for like ~50€?

I've seen L'Eau d'Issey and ck one come by a few times in this thread, those seem pretty light and casual or am I wrong?
Anyways how do I pick a fragrance, just go to the store and spray them on my arm and choose which I like the most?
>>
>>12271957
Just go to a department store and spray some fragrance on your arm. There are typically tester bottles available at the counter, or if not, a clerk will be more than happy to spray some fragrance on your wrist.

>Anyways how do I pick a fragrance, just go to the store and spray them on my arm and choose which I like the most?

Yes. There's usually an employee there who will offer assistance so you can tell them what you're looking for and if they know their shit, they'll give you good directions. Some stores will give out free samples as well.

Anyway once you find one or more fragrances you like, don't buy immediately but spray them on your arm and wear them for a day. What you smell during the first hour are top notes, which are light by nature and the scent might develop into something entirely different with time. This way you'll also see how long it lasts on your skin, which is pretty important for an everyday scent. Also if you've been blessed with a tasteful friend who can be painfully honest with you, it's not bad to ask for their opinion as well.

Lastly, you could note down what fragrances you like and check them up on review sites such as the ones linked in the OP. You might find a connection between them such as a certain note they share or all of them belonging to the same family, which would point you towards more options.

I am! Thanks. From what I could tell, Bois de violette is a bit more fall, and Gris might work better for the upcoming season. So I'm pretty hype to try it. Lucky Scent doesn't have Bois so I'm just copping samples of Gris, Vetiver Oriental, and Ambre Sultan.

I'm looking for a fragrance for mothers day.
My mum has Beyonce's Rise and Armani Code in the bathroom.
Would CK One Summer be a safe bet for the coming months?

Personally I REALLY can recommend Abdul Samad Al Qurashi's "Al Haram".

It is like a smooth oriental flower garden that can be worn on the skin, the smallest amounts have good Silage and endurance.

It lasts long.

acqua di gio anyone??

What do you guys think of the Armani's Eau Pour Homme 2013 revision?

I wore the original 15 years ago, smelled great but it would die out fast. Maybe it was too hot outside?
>>

It smells like literal urine water to me. Unbearable.
>>
Is Joop Go a good spring fragrance? Bought a bottle of it for my first fragrance.
>>
>>12275293
you should buy samples instead before buying a bottle
>>
>>12275338
Well, I'd say it depends. If it's cheap stuff, it doesn't really matter that much. I bought 5 bottles around the holidays that were on sale on the site I use, cost me a total of 80.00 including shipping. 3 things I liked, 2 I didn't and wound up giving away, but at that price, if I don't like it, it's like 10.00, I don't give a fuck.

If you're buying fancy shit, though, yeah, samples are a good idea. I'd never blind but a Creed or an Amouage or something.
>>
Wanted to buy some samples, was looking for something for everyday wear.
Currently getting:
versace pour homme
Ysl l’homme
Dior homme

Any other reccomendations?
Also, anyone got experience with DH vs DH intense, some people on bassnotes say they are pretty similar others say intense last much longer and intense is more for nighttime/going out.

>Male
>$100 or less ideally. Willing to pay up to $150
>Seasons/Weather
I live in Florida, so it's hot as fuck year round
>Occasion
Something good for everyday wear. Go to school, work, maybe out with friends, etc.

>special condition
None really. As long as I can easily find it in the mall or Amazon. Personal style is masculine/simple. No bright colors

Looking for a simple, fresh fragrance that isn't thick or overpowering. Something that smells nice, but still masculine, and something that can be worn for most occasions.

Dior sauvage, Versace pour homme, bleu de chanel, acqua di gio profumo
Check out the reviews on fragrantica and buy whichever suits your taste
>>
Just finished reading through this thread and found it fascinating.

Half looking for a good starting scent (<$100, college male in CA, general usage for most situations) but also wondering how to get into this whole thing -- not just the links on the OP but more so how did you guys get into having real knowledge of fragrances, etc
>>
>>12275827
For me it started with watching a lot of frag reviews. Then i discovered basenotes and fragrantica and became active in the communities. As time goes on and I smell more frags, my nose has developed.

oh shit just copped that and the Ambrosia off frgrancebuy. Should be here Friday, pretty hyped first blind buys of the year. Tell me how is it anon? Is it fresh? is the tobacco pronounced? hows the performance?
>>
>>12275980
Dunno about Ambrosia.

The Neroli, to me, smells a lot like Tom Ford Venetian Bergamot. The opening is very different, this is a very strong, almost harsh orange with herbaceousnous and ginger notes, but the drydown is very similar. That banana-like creamy, floral citrus.

I like it quite a bit. Also kinda cool that I'm one of the first people on the planet to wear it.

It's my primary hobby and I do alright for myself. This is a pretty cheap order, total of $145. I only pay retail for brands that can't be found via the discount sites. Aramis Havana is $67 at Nordstrom, but $18 at Fragrancenet.
>>
Is spicebomb good? Seems to get a lot of praise from youtube reviewers, like a LOT.
Fragrantica reviewers say it's really watered down though. Opinions?

I like it. Has a nice fresh, sweet, spicy scent. Don't know if it was reformulated and used to be stronger, but it performs pretty well.

Don't travel with it, though. The TSA don't like the bottle.

>>
>>12243710
got a bottle so to answer my own question
lasts between 4 and 6 hours
projects for about 2 hours then becomes a skin scent
so all in all average performance

I really enjoy wearing this scent though, will go through this 125ml bottle in no time
>>
>>12277348
How's the smell? And compliments?
>>
>>12277488
opening is a nice mix of kumquat and musk
kumquat is nothing special though, just another nice citrus note
as the kumquat starts to fade more and more some floral notes come out but the scent stays masculine because the musk is still present, it only runs out at the very end of the scent's lifetime when cedar dominates

personally I really like it, if I had to describe it in a few words I'd say it's a masculine non-tryhard scent, to me fragrances like this always smell like confidence for some reason

got a couple compliments from people who usually compliment me, I've only worn this for less then a week though, really looking forward to wearing it for some social event
