what's the best way for me to clean off nikes when dirt gets in the "mesh" looking part?
Wash them.

so literally, put the shoes with the laces on, in the wash, throw a tide pod or whatever in there and let it run? should i take the soles out of the shoes first or anything?

Nah dont do that, well you can. Mash em in a pillow case, tie a knot in the pillow case. I guess you could take your inner soles out.
But, saving all that, if its those shoes there.
Bleach, thick neat bleach and a bit of handsoap/shower gel/dishsoap or whatever. Apply lightly and scrub it out with a new toothbrush, watch out for splashback on your clothes.
Then rinse with hot water, just dipping the brush in hot water not the whole shoe under a tap, till theres no bubbles or foam. I mean it doesnt matter its just quicker to brush it out than soak it.
Towel off

If they're really dirty throw them in the washing machine for half an hour. Just make sure that the water isn't too hot.
Worked well on two of my mesh nikes that I just washed a couple days ago,
Been using the Jason mark cleaner as well.
It works well and you don't have to wash the entire shoe if there's just a small stain or something like that

don't brush it with jason markk or you will ruin the mesh
