Complete retard here bare with me. I ordered a velcro patch and want to attach it to my backpack. It came with a separate piece of velcro that I cut to match the shape of the patch. How am I supposed to attach the non-velcro side of the separate piece to my bag?

Most common spots are on the breast, above a pocket, and on the shoulder. Make sure you balance the patches. For example, don't do right shoulder + right breast.

For all you patchmakers and purveyor of patches, what kinds of volumes are you running at? Patch batch sizes? Should I test the waters with a run of 50 first?

I was tempted to start with 50 too, but I recommend against it. Start with 100. Per-patch cost goes WAY down as you increase the order size so you actually will probably only pay $20-50 more

Even now I always do a run of 100, except for the TRIP patches which had a lot more demand

I'd prefer not to, it's very simple to recreate (don't ask me why I am this paranoid). I posted it a few threads ago. Though I just decided to not buy new pants this February, and hopefully sell as many of these patches as possible. Considering I can probably get 100 made for under 150€ and sell them for 8-10€, that shouldn't be too hard.

Though I am having some trouble with Bigcartel, because here in Germany you apparently have to get some sort of allowance to open an online shop. Kind of confusing

i'm planning to invest the money i make to sell caps with the same design printed on the front, but just black print, so that the beige will be the same color on the cap and the design.

hopefully that won't be too expensive, then again i could sell these for like 30€

Good idea probably, it's actually not really my design, it's a poster design from the Paris Protests in 1968 and the handle is the Croix de Lorraine. I really couldn't care less about it's origins or meaning though. Changing it to your handle will probably keep me from any copyright trouble though, I believe it would be fine to use but better not take any risks. I'll give it a try, thanks.

Better to put a little work in and have it look great than to be lazy and have it look just okay.

I think it looks better this way, but you're right in saying that the handle is slightly too big.
Also, I'd make the lines of the handle thicker to avoid the propeller hat look you mentioned.
Again, it's a great concept and I'm excited to see the refined version.

Nice, it's looking really great now. The only thing that sticks out to me is that the handle is slightly too long for the design to have good balance. This is a case where going against realism and your instincts will help. Slightly more white space up top and slightly less between the head and the handle will look nicer imo. Hopefully that makes sense and I'm not just rambling like an idiot.

Definitely keep it that length. One thing I was thinking about is the head shape though; it seems a bit awkward. Pic related, I tried to mess with it a little on my phone, idk if y'all think it looks better or not.
Looking at it now, I'd move the nose and brow ridge lower on the head while retaining the more rounded top. Looks more aesthetically balanced this way, but that's just my opinion, and you shouldn't feel like this design is anything but your own.

AM, whenever you see this, listen to my stupid request. As weird as it sounds, the mystery patch pic would actually be a sick patch itself, especially if there were different color schemes. Also, it could work well with smaller patches, which, from what I've seen, are cheaper to produce.
