I managed to get the edges straight. It's difficult, because it's precision work. 3 millimeters off and it looks bad. Going to practice some more with triangles, trapezoids and circles.

I also found a green letterbox without a key.

Here is my only DIY item, i found some Bally curling shoes in a sports store that was closing down, they were selling everything for nothing really, and this was 25bucks, perfect size. The leather and construction was amaziinngg so i bought them, very carefully cut off the slippery plastic curling soles...sand paper them till the surface was flat and smooth enough for another sole...and added another sole...now they are amazing just walking around shoes with an amazing leather quality

How do I distress a shirt so it doesn't look too tryhard?
I recently got a band shirt of a local band I really like, but there were only Ls left at the show and I'm an M. Figured I can cut some fabric off the bottom so it doesn't look like a nightgown, but I if I cut from the bottom I should give the whole thing a kinda frayed look.

I saw some tutorials online, but they mostly suggest edgy ass shit like rubbing holes with sandpaper, or cutting "webbing" on the sides.

Managed to find a flecktarn parka in GR9 despite them being nearly universally sold out. From reading the sticky, I understand dying it is as simple as getting some Dylon dye and throwing it in the washing machine as per the label?

Going to pick up some dye soon, I'll post how it all goes to add to the record for others.

>>12188849

Sounds familiar. Reading through a few of the parka dying threads in the sticky leads me to believe Dylon is the better choice, anons seems to be happier with its results.

>>
>>12189738
t-thanks senpai
>>
>>12189742
So pins = embroidered patches?
>>
>>12189740

You can pick up a parka fairly easily, I just had a tough time finding GR9 to fit me here in the UK. All online retailers I found had sizes landing either side of 9, of they gave a size, my local surplus stores had a rack full of only 8 and 12. In the end I managed to order the last 9 stock from the online portal of a small shop half the country away. Took me two weeks to find.

I think it's just because it's a common size amongst those who buy it.
>>
>>12189681
Use 2 packs, or it'll come out dark brown

Also, take the patches off first if you want to keep them

I ended up using the Dylon dye and it came out pretty nicely. I double dosed on the dye so it would saturate much heavier and cover the original dye. Luckily I had an old turkey fryer and 10 gallon pot that I was able to use for my bath while being able to keep the water nice and hot. The tedious part was rinsing the remaining pigment out before giving it a final wash and dry. I did everything outside in shit I don't care about despite the dye being safe for a washing machine and rinsing in a tub

I have a dark blue Levi's trucker laying around and about 6 pairs of jeans i was going to go donate. I was instead thinking of cutting patches out of the denim and putting it on the jacket sorta like those japanese "boro" jackets.
Maybe also combine some other patches, pins, and buttons for like a patchwork battle jacket hybrid.
Any thoughts or suggestions?
>>
>>12206494
What makes japanese boro is the use of different kind of fabrics and sashiko so you might want to do research on both before just sewing your jeans to your jacket.
And to be honest it won't look authentic unless the product you start with isn't beaten as fuck and full of holes and in need of repair already but you can try I guess.

>>12206510
Yeah I totally get what you're saying. That's why I was thinking about distressing it myself beforehand. Won't matter how authentic it looks if it's getting patched up imo. I was also going to do sashiko stitching throughout to look more authentic. I also have a few shirts with interesting patterns I could part with. Maybe even do a shibori dye on them.
It would mostly be to experiment but I think it could look cool with all that and maybe some patches like pic related. I also have a pair of selvedge jeans I want to use for the details. Maybe around the arm cuffs or collar.

>>
>>12203966
Maybe. I just don't know really how to start everything
>>
>>12206595
I wouldn't add any patches to it, the boro in itself is decorative enough and I feel like the patchwork, the different fabrics and the sashiko stitching are the statement of the piece already adding patches to that just seems excessive.

- use many types of fabric
- avoid using colorful threads (black thread or dental floss)
- don't distress fabric by hand - distress it by wearing your pants
- don't wash 'em in the machine, wash in cold water bath tub or freeze 'em to get rid of smell
- avoid putting too many layers of fabric on crotch or knee area - they are going to be to warm or uncomfortable
- if you want to put on bands patches - keep it minimalistic
- reinforcing weak spots (knees, crotch) with leather is a pro tip
- dont you dare to put folk punk patches on yer pants
>>
>>12209056
>>12209153
Good advices, though I wash mine in the machine, I don't give enough fucks to do anything else and mine get super fucking mad dirty and an sweaty cause I skate in them.
Other than what the other guy already said, experiment, take notes from japanes boro, do sashiko stitching, put patches inside the jeans at times, use jacquard textured fabrics, use duct tape if you feel like it, use different techniques when patching (sew by hand, with machine, use fabric tapes etc.)
>>
>>12209216
And to add to this, you can add zippers for air flow, pockets if you feel like it, anything really.

Sooner or later you're gonna have to patch some knee or crotch area and by doing that this particular area is going to be less elastic
and stretchy. I would not recommend that, if you want your pants to be quite comfy. But give it a shot if you prefer, that's more up to your
preferences.

I want to get into altering clothes, mainly denim. Just some hemming and tapering and things like that. What's a good sewing machine for me that won't break the bank? I'm thinking I'll just have to go to a local shop and see what's up, like if they have any old refurbished ones or something. Seems most cheap options don't work very well for denim but I'd like some input from you guys
>>
>>12229087
You just need a needle for denim on any machine
>>
>>12229099
To my understanding in the long run the cheap gears in cheap machines can get worn down from use with heavy fabrics and more things of that nature. I've also heard of people having issues with machines that are too light in the base and move around a bunch when trying to work with heavy fabric

This >>12229099 is bad advice. Denim sews like complete shit unless you have a special machine or one of those extremely old ones that will punch through leather. I can barely hem a pair of jeans and I'm using on a nice oldie with metal gears.

Refurbished machines are the only ones worth buying, any of the new ones have plastic gears and will break within the first year. Le ddit has a good guide for buying machines on r/sewing I think it is, I can't give you as much information as what's on there.

Hey guys,
I wanna start my first DIY piece but I have no access to any sewing machines and such.

I've got a pair of 511s that I wanna get tapered and maybe hemmed , I'll probably take em to a tailor.

Anyway, what I want to do is do some kind of blue blue japan/kapital/junya inspired jeans maybe distress the bottom of the legs too but I'm unsure about how to go about it. Any advice or tutorials, I'll most likely have to do it by hand, but do I see onto the jeans or do I have to cut out of the jeans and go from there. I'll probably look for a fabric shop. I may put floral patches too unless it's recommended against

Any advice is apprceciated!

Why not, some may look interesting.
What is the meaning of 'baptisée' in that context by the way?

(and I must admit, I wanted to find some amateur porn of dirty girls wearing tablars)

When you go to university, you have the choice to do your "bapteme" (litterally "christening") it is organised by older students, and it's basically like joining a frat, except it is the same frat for the whole school. The bapteme in itself can last months, and include things like drinking till you pass out (obviously), kissing a certain number of members of the opposite sex (wether you're straight or gay doesn't matter), going naked in public, eating disgusting stuff (the worse one of my friends had to eat is a live goldfish) at the end of you bapteme, they put methylene blue on you, and give you your penne (the hat in pic related). Some people say it's pretty cool, other find it retarded, usually about 30% of students do it. In some schools the people who did their bapteme are dicks about it, and won't help anyone who didn't do it, but it's pretty rare.
So yeah a "baptisé" is a guy who did his bapteme, and a "baptisée" is a girl who did her bapteme
