who /model/ here and how did you get started?
my parents were missionaries to Japan so I grew up there
being white in Japan makes it really easy to get modeling opportunities. I think I was 17 when somebody stopped me on the street and asked me if I wanted to do a photo shoot

When I was young (17-23) I was an art model. I modeled for art photographers and artists. Interesting and fun work, I still have my portfolio from back then, and people are always shocked (well, maybe not shocked, but at least surprised) when they see it.
I got started in it because I was a journalism major at the time, and ran into a lot of art photographers and artists while researching and interviewing for stories and so on. It didn't take much, once I had modeled for a popular photographer, it just took off.

My friend told me that even though I'm a natural prettyboy. 19 is too late to get into modeling. Is that true?
I modelled a bit before starting grad school. I got scouted but I didn't get picked after the open call. Did "freelance" work at first because I had acne - wouldn't get signed. Once acne cleared up enough I lost a fuckton of weight and saw several agencies and signed with one.
Didn't work much, I was in school full time. Also had two periods of depression and gained weight during each, and my acne came back one year and I had to start on Accutane.
