Hi guys, I need some help from any watch-savvy people out there. So my missus and I just had our first baby 3 days ago and my birthday isn't far away. She wants to get me a nice looking watch to commemorate the birth of my baby. Thing is we need to keep it under 150aud (brisfag if that helps) due to having a baby and all that. Any recommendations or suggestions on a cheap but decent dressy watch? Thanks in advance guys

Op here. Always had a thing for watches like pic related, my dad is a bit of a watch nut and he owns a lot of these. He only reccomends seiko and the more upper shelf but brands dont phase me.
Pick out a Seiko 5 that suits your tastes.

That's not dressy at all.

Well im new to the whole watch thing. Its kind of like doing an apprenticeship, im still learning the ins and outs. That's why I came to ask you guys. Thanks for the tip though, what would you consider that kind of watch? Just casual?

That's a sports watch
Sounds like you want a chronograph, sorry don't know enough about Seikos to recommend one in your price range. Seiko 5 are best sports watches can't speak to the rest of the brand lines.

Most of your posts I agree with, but I simply don't understand this one. Can you explain?

SPECIFICALLY WRISTWATCHES ARE SUPERFLUOUS, AND THEY CAN BE AN ENCUMBRANCE; THEY ARE A VESTIGIAL ACCESSORY.
THE ONLY OCCASIONS IN WHICH I CONDONE WEARING A WRISTWATCH IS WHEN IN THE COUNTRY/WHEN AWAY FROM CIVILIZATION, OR WHEN PRACTICING A SPORT ACTIVITY.
No one will recommend you a watch he would actually wear himself because you will devalue its cache. A best recommend you can get here is a Clarks equivalent

Dude why bother posting in this thread? Its obvious im going to get one, your copypaste in every watch thread I've seen wont change that. Occupy your time with a degree or something. Cheers mate!

well it's kinda like $150 is a very very low ceiling for the more iconic stuff, probably stick to a seiko 5 matey

Thank you mate, they do look nice. Quick question though, is Adina a good brand? I used to deliver to a jeweller and he couldn't speak highly enough of them. Found a nice looking one for 120 and wondering if its worth the investment (not much of an investment but its the thought that counts).
