Somebody had to do it, these are always helpful threads.
>>
Is there a chance for acne to reappear after a full treatment with accutane? I have a pretty oily skin which breaks out often.
>>
>>12104741
Yes there is a chance, especially for young males. Young meaning you aren't done with puberty yet. I think it is a 25% chance for that demographic. But it will never return as bad as it has been before.
I actually got done with my accutane treatment a month ago. I do get pimples. But only like 1 or 2, they are small and disappear on their own in around 3-7 days. I never touch my face and don't squeeze those zits out.
>>
Should I moisturize? I currently cleanse with a low pH cleanser and then wipe with some micellar water afterwards. Haven't had any dry skin problems yet, so I'm wondering if it's even necessary? I used to break out when I used Cetaphil moisturizing lotion, so I'm a little wary of facial moisturizers to say the least.
>>
>>12104907
you might try a light moisturizer with sunscreen for the start of the day if you were worried. Long-term you could dry out your skin.

Look at Cerave AM perhaps

Lately I've been getting pimple-like bumps on my neck, except they aren't pimples. They usually don't look red or otherwise, but they are hard underneath the skin, can't be popped, and last sometimes up to two weeks or more. I've put tea tree oil and salicylic on them but it doesn't seem to do anything. Any idea what these bumps are? I'd post a pic but they don't show up well because they're never inflamed.

I decided to switch off of Cetaphil's Daily facewash to Cerave, and ordered the foaming cleanser. I accidentally ordered the hydrating cleanser though, which is for dry to normal skin.

Should I return it for the foaming? How does it compare to the daily facewash from cetaphil? The cetaphil lotion + facewash was fine on my skin. My face definitely is just "normal," little dry in parts, tad oily in others, but nothing extreme. I've heard this cleanser gives a lot of people breakouts.

Blackanon here. What's a sunscreen that works well for dark, sensitive skin?

I found out that the "black people don't need sunscreen" is just a myth,so I went out to buy some. Unfortunately it seems that the sunscreen leaves a white cast on my skin since it's dark. I did some research and found that chemical sunscreens don't leave a white cast but contain harmful chemicals.

Pic related to thread, bought this recently and it works well for my skin. Not too drying either.
>>
What's the deal with masks--namely, why choose one over another? I've been trying to compare charcoal and sulfur masks, but both seem effective at treating acne. Where should I even start if I have sensitive, oily, and mild acne-prone skin? And how often should I use these masks?
>>
>>12105436
What harmful chemicals? Sounds like the same pseudoscience BS that has been spouted about sunscreens for a long time. Physical sunscreens definitely are going to have too much of a white cast for you though. I'm pretty damn pale and still look like I put clown makeup on if I use a physical sunscreen.

The idea that black people don't need sunscreen is mostly a myth. Of course melanin offers natural sun protection, but it's still a good idea to use a sunscreen for the extra protection and to prevent (still lesser) amounts of early aging. And if you are not dark skinned you are going to have an even harder time as less melanin give you less of a natural SPF.

If I use less moisturizer my skin is too dry the first couple of hours.
>>
>>12105705
Try getting more moisture. If your skin is dry, or gets dry later in the day, it will try to overcompensate by producing more oil. Also make sure your cleanser isn't drying, that can have the same effect.
>>
>>12105145

enjoy your fucked up skin from applying salicylic acid in the morning without a lotion or sunscreen with spf protectio
>>
whats ur winter routien guys? I always end up moisturizing too much, but then still drying out by the end of the day.
>>
>>12105739

dont overdo it. i find that i'm not sweating as much in the winter unless i go to the gym. don't take super hot showers, that tends to dry out your skin more.

keep your skincare routine the same, but make it more moderate, and make other aspects of your life better. less fast food, more physical activity, do your laundry more frequently, etc etc.

My only suggestion would be to avoid things that make you easily red or pinkish.

Drink plenty of water, avoid alcohol, don't shave too much to avoid irritation, use a good cleanser like Cetaphil.

If you like tans, you could always get a tan too -- safely of course.

Cerave seems to have just overall better ingredients in their product like a bunch of ceramides, while Cetaphil only has the basics iirc. Since all of my face wash leaked out of my bottle and I did not notice since I stopped washing my face, just felt like a good time to switch and give the other a shot.

Also as a bonus is the fact that Cetaphil tests on animals while Cerave doesn't. I'm not some vegan out in the streets screaming free the animals or anything, but since more and more companies are switching away from this, it does strike me as a bit peculiar.

Unfortunately I bought the hydrating cleanser instead of the foaming so I am a bit worried how each compared to my normal. Guess I could just try it but eh

Hey guys. I suffered from acne all my life despite showering twice a day. I've tried everything and it wouldn't go away. But 3 days ago, I had a thought. If ance caused by grease, then if wash my face every hour, then there won't be any grease.

I've been washing my face every hour now for 3 days and I've never seen such great results. My skin feels tight when I move my face and the old black head skin on my nose is peeling off, and the non-spot skin underneath is there and my face is getting shiny. After 23 years, I'm finally making it bros!
>>
>>12109323
Good god man, your skin must be very dry.
That won't work in the long run, all that dry skin will clog the pores and cause acne.

My skin gets greasy as fuck after not showering for like 5-6 hours and I am not sure why.

The only things I do to my skin are wash it in the shower, use stridex to keep acne at bay, and exfoliate every other day.
I have a pretty healthy diet all around except that I have some amount of soda everyday because its my vice.

I would have guessed the soda was the problem but I have cut it out for 2 months before in an attempt to fix it and it did almost nothing.

Help?
>>
>>12109688
You should prob be drinking more water and maybe eat more fruit/ cut fats if your diet is the problem. I have to wash my face twice a day with african black soap and witch hazel toner.
>>
>>12104561
how the FUCK do you get rid of comedones that are completely beneath the skin?
It feels like they'll stay there forever if I don't do something, but squeezing them won't solve the problem.
>>
>>12109647

If you experience redness, itchiness, or flaking it could be sensitive, and if you see a lot of shininess (like after using a blotting sheet or visible oil after testing on the back of your hand) it's oily. Imo it's harder to tell if one is actually sensitive because it could depend on the season or if they are only sensitive to certain ingredients in products.

If you aren't sure by now you might just have normal skin.
>>
Usually I'm clean shaven but recently I've been letting my facial hair grow out. Around the nose and mouth there aren't any issues, but on the cheeks there are a considerable amount of white bumps where the hair is struggling to break the skin. I've been using this bump control stuff that's suppose to help clear it up but I haven't seen any real improvements, just has been making my face more dry. What else can I try?
>>

>>
>>12109323
that sounds incredibly fucking retarded but if its working more power to you
as a general rule of thumb you shouldnt wash your face more than 2x a day because it will dry out and irritate your skin, doing more harm than good
i think you should just take accutane and/or doxy
>>
>>12110093

It would probably be more drying than the gentle cleanser. If your skin is too dry you can always use a moisturizer.
>>
>>12110021
You can use an Alpha Hydroxy Acid. It helps your skin cells turnover at a faster rate, you can also couple it with a Beta Hydroxy Acid as well for better results but it might be too harsh on your skin if you use both at the same time. So it might be better for you to just use one or you could alternate between them. BHA's help remove dirt/oil/bacteria from your skin which is what's in your pores.

Also find out what the source of the problem is, because once you stop using it, what will happen? Will it come back?

I have slight bumps on my forehead still, but they've greatly improved to what I had before, I just use a BHA right now since it's summer where I live using an AHA will make my skin more photosensitive and damage my skin unless I wear a sunscreen, which you should do if you are applying AHA's to your skin.

My favourite choice of a BHA is Stridex in the red box, it's affordable and available (mostly, where I live I have to import it, if you're in the US should be easy). The acid used is Salicylic Acid, and is best at a percentage of 2%

Don't have a favourite AHA, but the one I use is Alpha Hydrox, I think they changed the name of their brand a while back. For starting out you want something at a low percentage, 7-8% is ideal, then you can work your way up to 10-12%. I put mine on in the evening because of the photosensitivity i mentioned before, you'd want to use a sunscreen in the daytime, and continue to use it a week after you stopped applying an AHA.

A toner
A serum
A moisturizer

bha - beta hydroxy acid

aha loosens up dead skin, letting cells fall away faster

i only drink water. 2 liters a day

I apply the weakest 2.5% version of BP to the problem areas of my face. It's the only way to keep clear, otherwise I'll get spots where I'm not applying. I haven't noticed any adverse effects, since I moisturise generously a few mins after applying, as per the acne.org regimen.

Moisturized is fine, but exfoliating multiple times a day is terrible for your skin, it'll inflame your skin and make it extremely dry. You should be exfoliating once every other day.
>>
When i moisturize it makes my skin look really oily afterwards. Anyone have any good moisturizer recommendations to prevent this?
>>
Have a dermaroller on the way, was looking at getting some lidocaine.

It's really expensive at my pharmacy (65$) and it's behind the counter, need pharmacist to give it to you.

This stuff is only 2% lidocaine.

But amazon sells lidocaine for a fraction of the price (10$) and claims to be stronger (5%)

So is the amazon lidocaine all bullshit? Should I go with my local pharma's shit?

>>

Try this:

If you have a FWD car, then jack up the front end so your wheels are about a foot off the ground. Take a cinder block and put in on the gas pedal. Lie down on your back on a skateboard and roll under the spinning tire. Carefully rub your face against the tire for ~30 seconds or until it starts to tingle. Then moisturize! Do this once every day to 2 days.

I don't see any reason not to use it after dermarolling desu.
Just make sure you only use it once a week after using a cleanser.
>>
>Step 1: Wash

Get Skin Ready: When starting to clean, open your pores for deeper cleansing by wetting skin well beforehand and then pump a small amount of soap into the palm of your hand.

Get Scrubbing: Use your fingertips to lightly rub the cleanser in circular motions to cover your entire face and neck. Stimulating skin and getting blood and oxygen to circulate means getting your technique down. Start by cleaning your forehead then working your way down to the nose area, then to your cheeks and lastly down to your chin and neck.

Hold it Just a Minute: Before jumping to rinse your face, allow your cleanser to sit on your skin for a moment. This lets it penetrate deeper.

Rinse Away: Rinse well with warm water until all of the cleanser has been removed. You can even splash a bit of cold water onto your face afterwards to help with blood circulation.

Finish Up: When drying afterwards, try not to rub your face with a towel. Blotting or patting dry is best to help prevent from harming your skin.

>Step 2: Tone

Start Toning: To apply toner, wet a dry cotton ball or cotton round with the toner of your choice. Wipe all over your face and neck, and allow to air dry completely. You can use toner day and night, but if your skin is particularly dry you may want to keep it to use just in the evenings.

>Tips

Wash Your Hands: Cleaning your hands before cleansing your face helps to stop the spread of bacteria and contamination to your skin

Use Luke-Warm Water: Using luke-warm water to wash and rinse prevents you from further harming your skin and helps you to maintain moisture
>>
>>12110576
>cream/gel
Neither, use Shave Secret oil. I've entirely sworn off creams and all that, shit's magical.
>>
>>12117153

>Serums

When To Use: Serums a perfect for use day and night after washing and toner use, and before applying a moisturizer.

How to Apply: Use the dropper to place about a pea-sized amount of serum onto your fingertips and smooth all over your face and neck

Only Use A Little - Serums are typically higher in concentration of active ingredients

Does Not Replace Your Moisturizer - Don’t depend on a serum to act just as a moisturizer - it can help to retain more moisture, but not add moisture

Let it Dry - Make sure your skin has dried after applying your serum before you go to put on your moisturizer over it
>>
>>12117159

>Moisturizers and Creams

Good For Day and Night: Lighter lotions are perfect for all day use, while thicker creams can be best put to use in the evening before bed

Applying: When applying, use gentle dabbing and spreading motions with your fingertips and be sure to cover both your face and neck

Complimenting: Find a moisturizer for day that compliments well with a cream for the evening (i.e. both have active ingredients to reduce wrinkles)

Knowing: Be sure to save lotions that include retinol for use before bed - it can be harmful to your skin when exposed to the sun

>Masks

Softens & Moisturizes: Minerals, such as sodium, chloride, magnesium, potassium, iron, and calcium nourish and soften the skin

When To Fit This Step In: Mud masks are best to use after washing and before toning

Use Caution: You don't have to wait for it to fully dry before removing and limit use to once a week - this can help avoid excess dryness of your skin

Be Gentle - Don’t scrub the mask off to avoid harming skin

Add Some Pure Oil - Use a drop of pure organic oil (like Jojoba or Argan) in your mask to give it a moisture boost

Try Not to Lay It On Too Thick - This can cause your mask not to dry or absorb into skin properly

This anon here, I sent my refund request to amazon and they just told me to keep it since I really don't return much and it was probably not worth their time. I decided to start my routine with the hydrating cleanser and new stridex pads I got since I have some clogged pores/closed commedones.

My initial impression of this cleaner is that it didn't leave my face feeling ANY cleaner or anything. Felt pretty much exactly how it did beforehand. I'm sure I'll know within a couple of days if this is helping my skin or not. I should have taken a picture or something right beforehand. Will post results as I go.

I am out of the country atm but will go to a doctor as soon as I get back. 3. massaging your nose with a mineral oil or non-comedogenic oil helps loosen up the sebum in your pores and helps get them out (google oil cleansing) and using bha products like stridex pads can help minimize your pores so your SF's are less visible

The substance itself is completely legit. It works for most people who try it.

Three main issues:
- The market for it is completely uncontrolled, so you can't know for sure that you're getting the actual substance when buying "Melanotan-II".
- The pigmentation created by MTII may be distributed in a nonuniform way over your body. Once it's there, it will take months to fade.
- The substance hasn't been documented in a rigorous way, and therefore we don't know about eventual serious long-term side effects. Skin cancer? Hormone disorders? Permanent sexual dysfunction? Can't tell.

Make sure your razor isn't dull and take your time with shaving. Use a high quality shaving cream or coconut oil in addition to your shaving cream. Moisturize with additional bit of coconut oil (~dime size, just enough for the skin to not feel dry). Tea tree oil has seriously helped my acne, I put some witch hazel on a cotton pad and rub that all over my face and then a bit of tea tree oil on my problem areas (don't use too much or it will burn). Also drink water and change your pillowcases regularly (you can use t shirts). I like to wash my face with black soap too, the kind for acne. All of the products I mentioned are inexpensive btw.

Yeah ditched the disposable about a year and a half ago. Shaved with a DE for a bit, then grew a beard for like a year.

Shaving with a new DE, still getting used to it maybe. I am using a fresh blade every time (they're cheap). But I have been doing a triple pass (with, across, then against the grain)...

Using provaso soap bowl with a brush. Have used coco oil before, sometimes forget.

It might be that the skin is already a bit bumpy there due to acne scarring that makes it so difficult.

Gonna try skipping that third pass, using coco oil every time, oh and just today I started using witch hazel before my aftershave balm.

I also just dermarolled today for the first time so can't update pic quite yet-face all red now (used .5 mm) but I do think the witch hazel went okay.

If you've tried a RX cleanser with sulfur, a RX topical retinoid, an oral antibiotic (tetracycline class), and a RX topical antibiotic (clindamycin, etc.), then I'd say it might be time for you to go on isotretinoin (Accutane was a brand name that is now discontinued, don't know why people still say it).

Toners are applied after cleanser to re-balance the ph level. Cleansers remove oil and dirt from your skin, but this also includes "good", natural oils that your face needs to protect itself. Harsher cleansers can strip away a lot of oil, and when you skin feels a lack of oil it can start to over produce to compensate for the oil that is being stripped off. This can lead to excessive oil production and oilier skin in general, which can lead to pimples, blackheads, and can lead to looking shiny and greasy. Some cleansers are harsher than others and not all need toners to accompany them. r/skincareaddiction has a spreadsheet floating around with tons of products and their ph levels if you're curious.

Side effects and their severity change with dosage.
Desert-tier lips and a dry, flaky face are to be expected.

I'm new at this. Here's what I've been doing recently for my face:

- Cold or warm water face splash
- Using this cleanser: Nivea Daily Essentials Crème Care Cleansing Cream Wash
- Washing the face, again with cold or warm water
- Applying Nivea Men Creme

Sometimes I also use an anti inflammatory cream to help with redness around nose area. It works, but the redness reappears very soon.
When showering I use this shower gel: Nivea Men Sensitive Shower Gel
Rarely, I put Vaseline on my face.

Amazon.de är ett bra alternativ inom EU; iHerb är bra om du beställer under tullens gränser för tullavgifter.

annars kan du bara gå in på random Åhléns/apotek och fråga runt.

Hey guys, I'm 28 and I've been using Minoxidil for a year and I've started noticing that I'm starting to look old rapidly. I've always been known for my good skin and a baby face, but now fine lines on my forehead appeared. Never had those before! Didn't even get them as I lift my eyebrows, but now they are just there. Not very visible, but still. Also wrinkles in mouth and eyes area. Maybe I'm just starting to get old rapidly, but I'm thinking minoxidil might have sped up the process by inhibiting collagen. There was one study that proved that effect. I don't think I'm ready to get off min, I'll just lower the dosage for now...

What skin care products can I use to slow down the aging and make up for inhibiting collagen and not keeping my skin dry?

What kind of sunscreen should I buy and do I apply it everyday? Won't my face be all shiny and oily? Is vitamin C serum good for slowing down aging and resucing the appearing fine lines? Or can I try Retin A? What would be a good routine?
