Wear what you like, don't put too much thought into "maturity", especially you are young enough to get away with anything. Find pictures of styles that you like and take inspiration from them. Most people here are like 17 and clueless so don't browse here too much.

In Australia it's pretty much impossible to not end up wearing just a t-shirt most of the time. To look more mature (and better in general) make sure to not wear graphic tees. When it's not too hot wear a button up shirt. Jeans are fine as long as they fit well and aren't shit/cheap, also some linen pants are great since they are the coolest fabric in the heat and don't need to be jeans. Instead of flashy branded sneakers like a hypebeast teenager, get more minimal ones.
Most importantly save up for some really good not-so-formal derbies which you can wear almost anywhere, and some boots for winter. In Australia just wear derbies and boots make you stand out as more fashionable (assuming it's done well) as fucking everyone just wears depressingly shitty sneakers here.

Make sure you are shopping at the adult section of the store.

OP I think they key point for you is that dressing maturely is synonymous with dressing appropriately. It's what separates being a boy and a man, in my opinion.

You'll only look like a "45 year old divorced golf-playing father" if you dress inappropriately for the situation. I can't tell you specifics since it depends what you like.

It's not what you wear, it's how you wear it. Tshirt and jeans can look good as long as they fit well and are the right kind. No ironic sayings or logos, no sleeve wings, no tearing at the end of the pant legs, etc

Ask your self if it appropriate enough to wear to church.
Ask yourself if you've seen other people dressed the same.
Don't be afraid to ask the people working the store if a certain combination is appropriate for the event.
