In short: Watch more movies.

Try watching more thoughtful, artistic and emotional movies instead of big, CGI-filled blockbusters.

This will slowly change your expectations of what you like in a movie and it will help you find more in cinema than simply 'entertainment'.

Don't jump right into art-house, as many lack a strong narrative and are paced slowly (which you don't seem to like). Try watching movies with wide critical acclaim but that were box office hits; Hitchcock, Tarantino, Kubrick etc. Their movies are entertaining enough that you won't get bored, but will also help introduce you to the various aspects of film, thus heightening your 'film IQ'.

Also, people shit on IMDB, and although it certainly isn't a perfect website, it does a decent job at distilling society's taste, and their top 250 list (http://www.imdb.com/chart/top) is a good place to get recs. Don't go film by film from 1-250, open films, look at their plots, see if it interests you.

I could also dump some /tv/ charts for film recs, if you're interested.
