hi i just want to give you a heads up, if you ask for a frag recommendation and you paint yourself as this badass edgy dude, nobody is going to take yourself seriously

especially with terms like 'prefer darker haired girls' and 'capricorn'

just say 'i want a serious scent, male, 22', the rest is unneeded bullshit, but even that doesn't give us a great description since we don't know what fragrances you already like.

Why do all kebab smell of body odor if Arabia has such a storied history of perfumery? Did Muhammad do this?
>>
>>12067310
Did a quick google search and it has something to do with Muhammad only wearing attar, musk, or essential oils on his beard, and that his followers did not wear any fragrant oils at all. Also that a man should freshen himself on Friday, so I guess devote Muslims only shower and apply fragrance on Fridays.

Where can I learn more about creating my own scent?
>>
>>12063997
Real brief thoughts on some Rasasis, sniffed on paper (not worn on skin yet):

Rumz al Rasasi Zebra - this is trying to be Aventus in a very Club de Nuit Intense sort of way. The top notes are not as sharp and lack the chemical cleaner lemon. Overall it is much closer to CNDI than to Aventus itself. Looking for an occasion to wear this on skin for proper full-day evaluation.

Rumz al Rasasi Crocodile - this one is clearly shooting for Sauvage, and I pick up the peppery ambroxan right off the top. There is a bit more fruitiness to the body and it is not dry feeling like Sauvage, but this is definitely close. I don't know whether it's better but I'm optimistic about this one.
>>
Would Alien be appropriate to wear to a Christmas dinner, or would it be too heavy?
>>
My favorites are dior homme, valentino uomo amd jil sander absolute. Can you recommend something new to try based on those? Thanks!
>>
>>12067814
Rumz al Rasasi Leo - this one is nice. Lightly oud-y with resins and spices. Going to need a few days with it to really pick the composition apart, but that there is a good amount to digest in a $30 scent is encouraging.

Daarej - sweetly woody vanilla juice. In the direction of a Givenchy Gentlemen Only type of scent but less incense and no citrus. I wore it on skin to bed last night and it was gone by morning, which was a bit disappointing.

Whatever complements your aesthetic the most. Wearing overpowering meme scents to inappropriate occasions will definitely not get you laid. I'm sure One Million will get mad white trash poon at some lame night club, but you will look like a huge tool wearing it to a uni lecture for example, especially if you're not some handsome guy like Jeremy Meme to begin with (you're not). TdH is another good example of a /fa/ meme that is just simply not appropriate for 95% of /fa/ audience.

I'm thinking leather & white chocolate base notes, maybe a drop of cedar, although I'd be worried that would make it too complex, and citrus peach head notes to validate my Alexander complex.

Try the Prada Infusion d'Iris line. Also LIDGE, Bois d'Iris by Van Cleef & Arpels (there's another Bois d'Iris but I had never heard of it, it's by The Different Company). All iris perfumes which are present in most of your perfumes.
You seem to like leather, too, so try Bvlgari Black and also Dior Fahrenheit (though the latter has been reformulated), and then delve into some niche leathers.
>>12069871
Most people will compliment scents they have smelled before because untrained noses won't recognize fragrances in the air. That, and you probably oversprayed since your nose was already used to this fragrance.

interesting, so you're saying that more novel scents are less to be noticed and complimented than more common ones? would've thought it was the other way around. Not overspraying either, I just do one spray on the neck and one on the chest under my shirt. For lighter fresh scents i'll do two on the neck and one under the shirt.
>>
>>12069925
It's basic psychology, really, since scents are memory stimulants. Think about women's perfume for you: if a perfume smells like something your girlfriend wears, won't you be way more likely to notice and compliment it than if it were something nicer but completely unknown to you?
>>
>>12069871
>in here
>2 spots away
If people are smelling you from this far away, you put on too much. Being attractive is great in many ways: add getting away with wearing too much fragrance to the list. I only tried it once years ago and found it syrupy synthetically sweet and didn't care for it, but it certainly could be skin chemistry.

Never actually smelled 360 black, but I've heard it be compared to fragrances like D&G The One, YSL La Nuit, and Burberry London because DUDE SPICY LMAO.

I lost my sense of smell a long time ago. I use Burberry London, which I've been told compliments myself good

definitely this is something that takes practice. sample different perfumes, if you want to take it to the next level, buy a kit of different essential oil extracts, so you can train your nose to recognise the pure forms of the common accords used in perfumery

I don't think I've ever seen this question asked. If your nose works and you just don't notice smells, start smelling everything. Certainly your food, as it is closely related to taste, but just everything, everywhere you go. I'm a smeller, so I suppose I would naturally gravitate towards this hobby.

Anyone in here had any experience with Terre d'Hermes Eau trés fraiche? How is it compared to the original?
>>
>>12079173
it's great, my main summer frag, very refreshing, doesn't feel synthetic at all, performance is bretty shit though so you'll need an atomizer
it's not really similar to the original tdh. I personally don't even like tdh that much.
>>
>>12079262
Hmm, I figured it's a little bit fresher maybe? not so heavy as the original desu?
How about the citrus notes, are they still dominant?
Oh and forgive my ignorance but dosen't the bottle already come with an atomizer?
>>
>>12079276
lol, tdh, not desu
>>
>>12079276
it's very fresh, light and citrusy yes. pretty underrated imo especially considering how shit and synthetic summer frags usually are
and I meant a portable atomizer because it doesn't last long so you'll need to keep reapplying it

Why is aftershave even scented? I need it to treat my skin after shaving but I also want to put on cologne.ä and I am too much of a pleb to mix scents.
>>
>>12080492
Have you tried only using a moisturizing cream for your face instead? I only shave the neck line, using CeraVe PM Moisturizer after I'm done (splash water, dab a little, let it evaporate, then moisturize). IMO it's much better than aftershave since shaving = exfoliating and using a moisturizing that only has the purpose of moisturizing makes more sense than splashing scented alcohol or scented mystery ingredient balms.

I should have added that the last thing you want to do to your skin after the trauma of shaving is to dry it out with alcohol. It needs moisture and protection.
>>
>>12080525
Not if you get a proper moisturizer. If your skin is oily, CeraVe PM could work wonders. The trick about avoiding acne is finding a product that works 90% for sure (i.e. does not give you outbreaks of acne, maybe it does not control it 100% but does not worsen it), then add another product and make sure it works 90%... and so on.
I've done it with adding benzoyl peroxide, then adding moisturizer and am currently adding a chemical exfoliant to my regimen. My skin has been acne free for about two months now, no regrets.

You don't *need* to do anything. Cold weather scents are more interesting to me, so I am relishing the "cold" weather we've been having lately. Dipped in to the 40s at night lately and I've been loving wearing my favorite frags in appropriate weather.

The thing about frags and the weather is the really rich, warm frags might get cloying in the heat, but that's not what all cold weather frags are. And the lighter, more refreshing frags that feel so nice in summer might get lost under layers of clothing and the denser cold air, but that not what all summer frags are. Experiment and see what you like. The only real faux pas you can make is to wear something really heavy and cloying in warm close quarters, so no original Opium, Ungaro III, Chergui...

I'm your neighbor and I keep a distinct selection of perfumes for use during winter months and on cool evenings. Mostly heavier stuff to enjoy under layers while being cozy in bed with the waifu, but also scents that are too thick and cloying to wear in 90-100 degree heat. I won't be able to wear Jubilation XXV (or La Yuqawam or Herod or...) to work in June, so I'm getting wears in while daytime highs are around 65 degrees.

Some perfumes that I enjoy year-round in southern California weather (45-105 degrees F) include: Mancera Cedrat Boise, Creed Green Irish Tweed, Guerlain Vetiver, Tom Ford Grey Vetiver, Bleu de Chanel, Sauvage, Bond Shelter Island, Mancera Gold Intensive Aoud, and Bond Scent of Peace fH.

Gotta wear it a few times to really "get" Sauvage. It helps if you already enjoy ambroxan. I can understand why some people view it with such disdain, as it's a wholly unnatural smelling composition. But I would hardly call Sauvage mediocre. To me, mediocre is something like Burberry London or Versace Man Eau Fraiche. Scents that are cheap, short lived, and diluted. Sauvage is none of these.

Don't really know anything about scents, but here goes:

21, male, cannot spend more than £40, looking for something to use generally in Spring/Summer in London, would prefer a more mature, masculine scent. Hate to sound tyical, but I enjoy the smell of old leather, tobacco, old books, that sort of thing. Also like the smell of Chinese incense and ink. So I guess scents reminiscent of old London or old China would be great.

I already have Terre d'Hermes and CK Be

Thanks in advance.

>>
>>12086570
thing is, fragrfances that contain leather/tobacco are usually cold weather fragrances. If you like ink, try Encre Noire, it suposse to smell like black ink, and it's really a niche quallity smell. Anyway, i'd shoot for something with vetiver - grey vetiver is your best pick probably but it's a bit more pricey. It's masculine, mature, and smells money.
>>
>>12086656
colder weather doesn't carry or compliment the scent, it's jarring to others. In warm weather, L'Homme becomes much more lush and easy to smell.
>>
>>12086570
This is how you ask for a rec. :)

Not sure if these are considerably marked up in price over there, but check out:
Guerlain Vetiver (great prominent tobacco note, but I have an older "ribbed" bottle, so def sample first, which you're doing anyway, right?)
Bulgari Black / 360º Black for Men / Midnight in Paris (these all get you in the same tea/leather/vanilla neighborhood. in order from dry to sweet. MiP might be too much on warmer days.)
Fahrenheit (leather, among a lot of other things. remarkable frag)
Havana (tobacco et. al.)

The thing is the notes you like are tricky for the warmer months. It's easy for this stuff to get cloying when it gets warm. The recs I gave are more the exception to the rule for those notes, and can all be worn, and even flourish, in the summer heat, except maybe MiP...
>>
I haven't bought a fragrance for years, and I'm thinking of getting the L'Artisan Parfumeur: Fou d'Absinthe. I sampled it like 4 years ago and remember it as the best scent I've ever smelled. However, my knowledge and experience with fragrances are generally very limited, and I'm only 21 years old. Does anyone know the scent, and can you say a bit about it's summer/winter appeal and other relevant stuff? What is the general opinion on this fragrance or just L'Artisan Parfumeur in general?

only tried these two, l'Homme is the more pleasing and versatile one, smells great, masculine yet subtle and soft and the same time, great for all occasions

MiB reminds me of spicebomb, but more upscale, not as sickly sweet or spicy, much more refined, but it's not everybody's cup of tea

if I had to pick one of the two, I'd pick l'homme (depending on what you own already and what you'd be using it for)

Occasion: Casual/School.

Currently own:
Acqua Di Gio, Montblanc Individuel, Boss Bottled Night, Coolwater.

Went to a store earlier this week and I liked DG The One, Dior Homme, and Chanel Allure Homme Sport.
Also I absolutely hated Sauvage and Le Male.

Budget: £50-£60. Or should I get e.g. 2 cheaper scents instead?
>>

The One is a wonderful fragrance, but it may be a little too "grown up" for a high school senior. It's a very sweet and spicy fragrance more suited to a date or anything going on after dark. Also it becomes sickly sweet when worn in warm waether.
For a cheapo scent, Calvin Klein One, Versace Pour Homme, YSL La Nuit, and Allure Homme Sport are pretty safe bets.

I only started getting into fragrances, like, two months ago. Initially I was planning to buy Burberry London, but I'm already getting sick of it. There's something sharp and artificial about it. There was a moment a few weeks ago where I walked past this 16 year old fuccboi wearing it and it didn't seem to help him at all. I knew it was the beginning of the end for London and me.

Does anyone have any thoughts on Diptyque? I've had the chance to smell Oud Palao and I'm pretty intrigued.

Best smelling cologne I have ever bought and is very cheap. I get compliments all of the time, highly recommend.

this site doesn't seem legit, considering how much cheaper than retail price this is displayed for. Anyone used this site?
>>
>>12091666
I'm the guy who linked it, I've used it once so far, for ch men prive, and as far as I can tell, the product is completely legit. Shipping was crazy fast too, since their stock is actually in AKL, rather than strawberrynet, whose stock is in hong kong.

Honestly I think la meme is flexible enough to be worn during the day unless you work at some super formal workplace (in which case you probably just shouldn't wear frags during the day desu), it's not one million-tier.
>>
Any suggestions for an anon working in academia? If it helps, the school is medicine and it is fucking hot atm

I really don't want to sound like some tryhard faggot, but that's the problem with frags for me, they're kinda ruined the moment you smell it on someone else. This ruined La Nuit for me which was my signature scent for years. Thankfully there is a pretty simple solution which is to not wear meme scents. After some searching I found a new obscure signature scent that's cheaper than La Nuit and lasts longer too, though I still slightly prefer the smell of La Nuit to be honest.

I'd say just stay away from bro scents (creed, paco rabanne, anything aquatic) but other than that it really depends on your own style and disposition. unfortunately summer frags are generally much more limited in scope than fall/winter stuff. If it helps I'm a high school teacer and I wear tdh eau trés fraiche during summer, but then again I don't actually work during the summer since school is out. Also its longevity is pretty awful as some people said earlier.

Okay seems trustworthy. Plus from what I've seen, there are no fakes of Dior Homme Parfum.
Mostly likely due to it only being 2 years old
>>
>>12091813
Just to be clear, you won't wear a scent you love because you smelled it on one other person one time?
>>
has anyone ever bought those indie etsy parfumes? are they worth it?
>>

Woody with a hint of citrus*

Will probably go higher than £70 depending on if I like it or not and what isn't pictured is "L'Eau d'Issey Pour Homme Issey Miyake"

Looking for recommendations, or to see if these are suitable.

Male, willing to pay a fair amount, autumn/winter, just something for everyday, willing to source online.

Specifically want something androgynous, so female frags are fine. Nothing too feminine though.

I've already been rec'd:
>Tom Ford Black Orchid
>YSL Body Kouros
>Chanel Coromandel
>Dior Homme
>Gucci Pour Homme II
>Lolita Lempicka Au Masculin
>Van Cleef & Arpels Midnight in Paris
>Chanel Sycomore
>Ungaro III

Know almost nothing about this stuff so help would me much appreciated.

the majority of all frags are unisex m8, you're gonna need to be a bit more specific than that. out of that list you could just blind buy midnight in paris, it's cheap and a pretty safe bet imo
>>
>>12092317
Fair enough, I see your point.

To be more specific, something woody and slightly sweet would be nice. Nothing too floral.

Dunno if that helps, but it's a start.

used to wear it for a while and loved the faded tobacco note after awhile. however it does comes with a hint of "frat party bros" and "ricer boys". now whenever i smell it on someone first thing i notice is this overpowering smell of cinnamon
>>
Had a sample of Dolce and Gabbana, don't know the name but it smells nice. Two cute girls complimented me soo I need to find it immediately.
>>
>>12092780
Dolce and gabanna the one?
Did it smell sweet tobacco vibe?
What was the situation where the girls complimented you
>>
Bought DHI and love it, is it a pleb tier fragrance tho?

Also anyone tried Penhaligon`s Juniper Sling?
>>
>>12092328
Might want to check out egoiste. In my opinion it hits all of your prerequisites. It's not entirely androgynous, I think, but could easily be discerned as a masculine scent leaning (key word here) towards androgynousness since there's a creamy/sweet note. Definitely check out the fragrantica reviews to see peoples' impressions of the frag.
>>
Any cheaper alternatives to Penhaligons Sartorial?

Wood or its variants by dsquared
>>
>>12092250
That's actually a really good list. LLaM is really sweet and features anise, a note I personally dislike and UIII is really dark and cloying, featuring a dark rose that I'd imagine an undertaker would wear, but other than those, great stuff.

I might add:
Égoïste
Knize Ten
The Third Man

>>12092780
>smells nice
You gotta give us more than that. Was it sweet? Powdery? But def check out The One for Men, as it is one of their most popular.

Anyone ever used Unique fragrance to design their own perfume?

I want too but I'm hesitant incase it turns out to be a bottle of cat piss or shitty quality.

I chose agar wood, white musk, vetiver, blue cedarwood, blackcurrant and bourbon vanilla. Would these scents work? I wanted and deep natural smelling/woody aroma with hints of sweet fruit.

If that site is a load of shit could you recommend any scents I might like based on those 6 I selected?

T-thanks

Dsquared Rocky Mountain Wood is the only answer.
