this, for example, is a quality boot. it's steel toe, waterproof, no slip, yet well designed, and made of synthetic materials (it's much blacker than in the pic).

what would normally pass for cyberpunk is made of leather, gaudy, goes high up the shin, and wouldn't protect your feet nearly as well.

"CYBERPUNK", AND "CYBERDORK", ARE NOT MUTUALLY EQUIVALENT.
>>
>>12064515
as stated earlier, OP was not clear at all as to what was meant by "cyberpunk". no aesthetic has been specified as the standard for posting so that might as well be considered cyberpunk, except for perhaps its outdated-ness.

>>
>>12064515

Well, it looks like it's made of the same stuff as the Turf Stomper, which is rubber and whatever they use for the liner. They don't specify if it's vegan most likely because when people look for work boots, most of the options are made of leather so it helps the customer to be clear about this.

At the bottom of the page it says they offer live customer support, so I assume you could ask them to be sure. As for the negative reviews, I bought two shoes from Bogs 2 weeks ago and both of them have been looking good and doing well since I got em, so the brand seems reliable. They also emailed me asking if I could write a review about what I've bought, so they seem to care about their product.

that will do. it looks pretty silly to be honest. I can understand that it's built for Russian weather, but then I don't see why they didn't protect the nose better while they arguably over-did the rest of the lower half of the face.

In terms of looks, pic related isn't cyberpunk. but in terms of functionality, it is. basically one hundred percent weatherproof with lots of pockets.
>>
>>12064726
>in terms of functionality
stop right there.

The only way this jacket could be "functionally cyberpunk" would be if it could inject combat drugs into your body while you're on the run from the cyberpolice.

Being weatherproof and with lots of pockets makes it functionally pretty convenient if you like hiking.
>>
>>12064740
then we just have different ideas about what it means to be cyberpunk. you're emphasizing the technological aspect whereas I'm foremost concerned with reliability and practicality.

>inject combat drugs into your body while you're on the run from the cyberpolice.
this is why nobody takes "cyberpunk" seriously these days. it's all fantasy with your type and no groundedness.

you carry lots of tech shit with you, 24/7, need it whatever the weather? you need a weatherproof pack, you need a weatherproof jacket and pants, especially if you live in a place like the Pacific Northwest. the jacket is cyberpunk because it fits into a lifestyle that is tech-centered yet realistic and not difficult to imagine.
>>
>>12064721
>>
>>12064752
No, not just the technological aspect, also the punk aspect.

>I'm foremost concerned with reliability and practicality

okay so you're not concerned with cyberpunk at all then.

You're concerned with having decent clothes.

You know what else fits a lifestyle that is tech-centered? Having a tidy, well-kept house to keep all your tech in. But living in the comfort of your cozy home isn't very cyberpunk, is it?

No, seriously, is it?

I'm kinda curious to hear your answer because if you think basic outerwear is representative of the violent street youth of the dystopian future, then maybe you're gonna answer me "yes it is."
>>
>>12064765
>But living in the comfort of your cozy home isn't very cyberpunk, is it?
Do you honestly believe that in order to be a cyberpunk, you have to literally live on the streets? No 4-star high rise apartments paid for in cryptocurrency earned from cracking for you?

>if you think basic outerwear is representative of the violent street youth of the dystopian future
it's not "basic", or else basic is not as much of a bad thing as you make it out to be. again, you imply that if you aren't wearing rags that let you get drenched to the bone (and your pocket computer) in a rainstorm, then you aren't cyberpunk, which is frankly a ridiculous opinion to have.

Also, not every cyberpunk character is a "violent street youth". You also have professionals who are more likely to wear suits than they are, again, literal rags and hand me down thrifts.
>>
you numptys with your waterproof boots and hoodies - youre doing it wrong! cyberpunk means straight from the set of blade runner, aright?
>>
>>12064786
>Do you honestly believe that in order to be a cyberpunk, you have to literally live on the streets? No 4-star high rise apartments paid for in cryptocurrency earned from cracking for you?
Yeah.
Yeah pretty much, or at the very least, a total dump filled with trash and boobytraps, and an invasive surveillance system that will wake your ass from a coma if a cop gets within 3 miles of your hole.

4-star apartments are for the bizsuits and their henchmen. But even then, they aren't cyberpunk in themselves. We've had bizsuits and professionals live in 4-star apartments for decades and decades.

>it's not "basic", or else basic is not as much of a bad thing as you make it out to be. again, you imply that if you aren't wearing rags that let you get drenched to the bone (and your pocket computer) in a rainstorm, then you aren't cyberpunk, which is frankly a ridiculous opinion to have.

It is basic, but my point wasn't that a denizen of a cyberpunk universe wouldn't be caught wearing one (because frankly, he could). My point is that there's nothing specifically cyberpunk about that piece. It's not tech-oriented, it's not something a biker junkie would typically wear, it's just a piece of clothing that you can wear when it's rainy.

Are umbrellas cyberpunk?

Well, there's a place that sells repro movie props:

http://www.magnoliclothiers.com/deckard-trenchcoat-overcoats-p-286.html

but it would be really lame to actually wear, in my arrogant opinion.

But fuck bro, if you're wealthy or you have a killer job, try this one:

http://www.stoneisland.com/us/stone-island/mid-length-jacket_cod41658889nm.html#dept=ctsndjck

It definitely has a Kyle-Reese-walking-through-downtown-LA-with-a-pump-action-shotgun type vibe to it, but it's really damn expensive. I've got a Shadow Project article of clothing though, and honestly they DO make high quality stuff, so I'm sure you'd get what you paid for. I don't know, it looks very cyberpunk-ish to me, and plus, it could be very mod-ish, too, if worn the right way.
>>
>>12065426
>very
>-ish
so it's VERY MILDLY cyberpunk?

If you wanna look like Kyle Reese (or any cyberpunk protag who's not a street punk, really) just buy yourself a trench coat.

And if you wanna look like one of the punks, buy a shorter leather (or pseudo) jacket

You're just gonna look like a random shmuck in a vest.

Yeah, I could have phrased that better. I started off by trying to say that there isn't any real good Deckard-like trench coat available, to my knowledge. Plus, he also had a really distinctive shirt and skinny tie, along with all the baroque richness in the film's background, and with random cyberpunk details scattered just everywhere, constantly for the entire length of the movie. So, as far as Deckard-core goes, it's basically an impossibility, I think.

City of Men was a top-notch science fiction, but it was dystopian without any real cyberpunk elements in it. Clive Owen's character had a trench coat, too, for whatever it's worth. But as cool as those coats look in sci-fi flicks, they seem to only work for certain types of people in real life.
