The sticky wiki has nothing on retinol.

What is the general consensus on /fa/? Is it worth it? How to apply it? How much and how often?

Also talk about all things related to skincare.

Isotretinoin is useful in (very) severe cases of acne, it is used orally. It dries out the skin like crazy and you will look horrible for about three months. For girls, it is necessary to use contraception because if you get pregnant, your child WILL have birth defects. It works very good though and is the only option for severe cases.

It's the only useful vitamin A derivative IMHO, retinol topically usually only has a very moderate effect.

>moderate effect.
Isn't that pretty good for an over-the-counter product though?

I've began using face wash and my skin (mostly nose and forehead) got much more oily. Is that normal in the beginning or is the face wash bad?

Get something more gentle. It might be too drying for your skin.

How to get rid of acne scars in the chest? They're red and doesn't seem to leave my fucking skin. I tried putting aloe vera on them but it has no effect other than mitigating the redness only for that day.

Alright, thanks.

I get acne every once and a while, but most of the time I just wash my face and it's no big deal.

I'm getting into skin care, if I don't get acne that often should I get a BHA or an AHA exfoliator?
I'm not planning to use it often, just have it for when my face gets gross.
>>
>>12061359
Also if I'm not sure what to use with an exfoliant, should I just get a retinoid? Thanks in advance.

Wash your face and use a towel on your pillow when you sleep. I've been doing it so far.
>>
>>12060514
Retinol isn't usually used for fighting acne, it's used in anti-ageing products. Not all retinoids are used in the same way.
>>
>>12061380
He said retinol, not retin a. Retinol is available in plenty of skincare products, even down to drugstore level.
>>
>>12061910
Serious question, would Retinol replace an exfoliant in a skin care routine, or would it just be an addition?

addition. in a standard cleanser > toner > exfoliant > serum > moisturiser routine, retinol is usually in the serum

Same here. The problem for me is that I only recently started reading a lot again, and on top of that, I arch my neck and head forward so my arm can reach it.

Fucking dairy is in everything, can't even get a muffin cause it has butter/milk in it. Just trace amounts of it cause me to breakout. When will this nightmare end.

Honestly it's a gamble to take isotretinoin. I'm more than 3 months into treatment and haven't had any severe side effects, not even especially dry skin, though strong positive effects. My dose is 30mg daily. Other people might lose their hair or suffer from Crohns disease their hole life, you definitely have to think it through before you begin treatment.

washing with cold water is a good idea. avoid anything too rough like a washcloth unless it's microfibre. shower at a lower temp.

you need to use some sort of cleanser, but make sure it's a light one. you should ideally also apply a light toner and BHA exfoliant, serum with retinol in it to start healing the past damage, and of course moisturise

try sampling some of the products from paula's choice, they're pretty legit.

also put a towel over your pillow and change it each day. half of the acne is spread through your pillowcase. needless to say, don't touch your face. once you start applying a full skincare routine, this will become easier.

the usual warnings about diet also apply. drinking lots of water can help to clear skin, and ensuring that you actually get all the micronutrients, especially zinc iirc, can help to balance your hormones, reducing or preventing breakouts

this lol. it sucks but in the end im kind of thankful to have such volatile skin, it keeps me away from tons of unhealthy shit that other people inhale and only realize is slowly killing them once they get diabetes and have to lose a toe
>>
Is there anything I can do to reduce the appearance of nasolabial lines? I'm 20 but I think I got them from sun damage so they're not too noticeable. I've heard a chemical peel can help but I don't really know if its worth it. I've got shitty dark skin so I'm probably just gonna have to live with it
>>
>>12066168
Depends if you have the cash to spend on plastic surgery or not.

I have them too and tried a lot of stuff like dermarolling and a ton of creams or masks without any success at all in minimizing them. However they did get a little better once I closed in on single digit body fat percentage, so I'm cutting down again at the moment.

Getting them fixed surgically is the first thing I'll be saving money on once I graduate.
>>
>>12063212
Wouldn't cheese be fine because it has low amounts of lactose?
>>
>>12066259

Lactose isn't the cause of acne, it's the hormones prevalent in dairy. Hence why acne from dairy tends to be more deeper and under the skin (e.g. cysts).
>>
>>12063659
impressive. very nice.
