Totally. They definitely skimped on that detail

As much as I dislike the military, actual Apocalypse-core would be looting the next place that has milsurp or similar and getting as much functional bullshit with as many pockets as possible so you can run when you need to, without leaving much back.
Never got why people in Apocalypse/Zombie-movies/series would walk around in everyday-clothing. Especially stuff like Michonne, showing far too much skin.
