I want to clear out tons of my old clothes (and also buy some new ones) to help my wardrobe have a consistent aesthetic.
What are some guidelines/tips for getting rid of old clothes?
Should I create a colour panel and judge it on that? Should I have a set quota of how many similar items I should have? What's a good test to help myself to decide good items to keep? (eg how I often I wear it etc)
When I do this I always get overzealous and get rid of anything that isn't the same colour but I have lots of things I like that don't thematically fit

yes: keep it
no: get rid of it
its not that fucking difficult.
Keep the shit that's in good condition and that you like, get rid of the beat clothes or ones you don't wear. Maybe get rid of things that don't fit your preferred aesthetic, try them on with your favorite shirt/pants and see if you still want them.
Take the old clothes to a store where you can sell them, buy new clothes to fit into your updated wardrobe with the money.
If you can't decide what to keep do this.
1. Place all your clothes on hangers facing one way
2. when you wear clothes and wash them, place them back on the hanger with the hook facing towards you
3. At the end of the month/2 week, see which ones are not facing toward you with the hook.
4. The ones not facing towards you with the hook are the clothes you don't wear
5. get rid of them

I did this a couple months ago and it helped a ton. There were things I wasnt quite sure about parting with at first but after I donated them, I don't even miss em
