have a good look at the studio and the artists work, before you get the tattoo done. Is it clean, do they smoke or eat inside, are there designated rooms for tattooing, do they wear gloves, stuff like that.

And have a look at the portfolio of the tattooer. Are his lines straight or do they form an arch or are they shaky? Are there burstouts (dots that are bigger then the line) where lines meet or even directly on the line? Do you like his kind of shading? Is the artist capable of making tattoos in the style that you want? Someone who makes traditional tattoos probably can't make you a hyperrealistic one.

I'm 24 and wouldn't mind getting a tattoo but for me it's also scary because it needs to be something I'm comfortable having on my body for the rest of my life, sometimes I think it takes a big commitment to get a tattoo. I wouldn't even know what to get, if I did get something I'd want it to be something meaningful to me in my life, something that I really value and will continue to value or love for the rest of my life.

Getting tattoo's of flowers, animals, gothic designs and what not don't really seem meaningful to me, but I guess that's subjective. People get a tattoo of whatever they think looks "cool" but I want to get something that I think is meaningful to me, and it's tough because sadly I can't think of anything I'm strongly committed to that would warrant getting a tattoo of it.

I suppose if I was more faithful or religious I could get a religious tattoo, but who's to say I'll always be religious? You see my point? People change, you might get a tattoo and come to regret it years down the road when it no longer represents you or what you once stood for. If I'm going to get a tattoo I'd probably have to mentally prepare for months and months before even considering going through with it, and I'd have to be 100% set on the design and how I want it to look.

I wouldn't want to get a tattoo of something I saw in a video game, movie, or some form of media because that doesn't seem meaningful to me. It was just something I thought looked "cool" and has no impact on my life, and I'll probably forget about it in a few months. That's what I don't understand people who get like video game or TV show tattoo's, who's to say you'll always like that game, and how is that game or TV show meaningful to your life? You think you'll give a shit about Assassin Creed 20 years from now? Or The Walking Dead? Come on now.
