I think a lot of it comes from Russians/Serbians/Ukrainians or whatever becoming trendy on the internet, in the way that they got this "not giving a fuck" aura. Of course all people from Ukraine (or whichever country these pics are from) isn't like that, but when you see videoes such as https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U_M-bajtTYw a lot, then people start to think that these kind of people don't have any worries at all (which might be true, I honestly wouldn't know), and they start to idolize them and wanting to dress like them, therefore creating a term called terrorwave, so it's easier to seek inspiration without having to explain what they are looking for everytime. If this isn't true, then someone, please correct me, but this has been my assumption ever since i first saw it. For me personally, it is (also a little that I idolize these people) but really mostly that you get to dress comfy and cheaply, but still stand out a little bit, since you got that one, more or less unique milsurp piece.
