Are the prices for designer clothes marked up because people are willing to pay for it, or are they actually using expensive materials?

>they actually using expensive materials
if they did I really want to know what materials cost close to that much
becuase suede, good suede is expensive doi..
You do get diminishing returns the more expensive something gets.
The craftsmanship and materials are probably top notch. But really only "worth it" for people who own 20 cars

both, depends on the designer, some shit is artisan crafted leather, furs and textiles, other is cheap materials like vinyl because the designer wanted that material, other shit is just like normal clothing but people pay for it because of the status associated with it

They are mostly marked up. Materials itself are too different than say something a tenth of the price. You do pay for the higher end labour but that's about it.

the retail price is a huge markup but the designer doesnt make that much on it, unless you buy directly from them
if you buy from a retailer, the retailer is making so much on an item

it's marked up because rich people can afford it anyway and middle class /fa/ggot retards will impulse buy shit like this when they see a hella epic black friday / "clearance" sale and feel good about copping something like this for "only" 400. just look at how frequent major sales are in fashion compared to any other industry.
