hey guys what should I major in? are there any jobs or career paths for people who like science/math but you don't have to study 6-10 years (med school) after undergrad for a nice, stable job?

I'm considering engineering but I don't know how hard it will be. I consider myself a good student (4.0 gpa) but still, the only people I know doing engineering are nerdy guys who just understand physics well. I had to take a long time to sit down and learn physics and even then I did worse than people who just understand it well.

With business, finance, or econ I feel like my interest in science will be wasted even if I get a good job.

Aberdeen is only rank 35 for econ, but rank 14 for linguistics.
I can't speak for these subjects, but in my subject (maths) the top 10 compared to out of the top 10 have a huge difference in material.
so rather than worry about ranking, just go for the subject that you actually want to do (or retry for a better uni, I'm sure there's significantly better in the US than Aberdeen).

Be very nuanced in how you interpret the question or problem which your interviewer gives you, as well is in the answer you provide. Display a sort of confident curiosity -- be enthusiastic in the interview, as it is directly pertinent to your subject about which you obviously are supposed to be enthusiastic. Best two tip for interviews I've ever gotten (and this applies to all types of interviews):

1) When the question "Tell Me About Yourself" comes up (and it almost always is the first question), introduce your name again. If you can get your name to stick out in their head, you have a better chance of getting in, and the more you repeat it the more of a chance you have of them remembering it.

2) For every answer you give, try and give a detailed reason, and provide a small ancedote to back it up. If you say you're a hard worker, back it up with a story of the time you pulled 3 all-nighters in a row or something.

No one or place worthwhile cares that your university is Russel group or not. Heck, no one remembers the Russel group list. Especially for econ, the well known ones are Oxbridge, Warwick, UCL and LSE.
Going to Leicester won't get you any favours employmentwise outside of uni.
The history behind the formation of the Russel group explains why it's a thing, but in the modern age it means nothing.

In my experience JF kids are much better than FF..

The Academics here are fantastic, but if you're not prepared to do the work honestly don't come here. Most people dont, and I dont think there is anything at all wrong with not wanting to take academic seriously, but you would be much happier if you are interested in recreation and social life and not so much education going to a school where there is a much healthier social life in lieu of the workload we get here. This program really is something incredible and you are going to have really awesome moments while learning. But be prepared to do at least 3.5hrs of work per day outside of class.

In terms of social stuff, it's on average, OK. Parties are all right, there are rarely enough people to fill out a room. With day to day stuff, there is a dominant social culture on campus that IMO is pretty unpleasant. Think Art School Kids minus being creative or interesting at all. They are bratty and generally unpleasant, which would be fine if they had redeeming qualities but they don't

There are gems that are outside of that culture, but they are mostly few and far between, but if you can find those people you will be very happy because they are quality.

Dress well and with some care for tradition.

Don't smoke weed, stick to booze, avoid anyone who smokes weed at 3pm on Monday like the plagye

If you don't already smoke, you will soon.

If you are a liberal you may not get along with your tutor if you are a conservative you might not get along with students. People are generally apolitical (from what I hear not so much at SJC-A), so try to leave that stuff at home.

Food is awful.

Dorms are much better than average cllg. Dorm.

Most parties happen in uppers and suites.

You will believe in God by the end of 1st sem.
