you have to get a belt for that. If you look at all the pictures, theres a belt that is laced through the waist portion. Not saying you have to buckle it, it may look better unbuckled on you but you definitly need a belt.

I'm going to a christmas gala but I only have my suit trousers with me. I do not want to buy an entire new suit for this one occasion I have no access to my blazer.

I am thinking of getting a nice high quality oxford shirt (white) and wear suspenders and a bow tie.
