If you are passionate about any instrument it is probably a turn-on (which I imagine is what people usually mean by effay).

Caveats:

>no gimmick instruments like the ukulele or didgeridoo
>no weeaboo instruments like the shamisen. "oh I just like nonwestern music, broaden your mind!" then why Japanese and not Chinese or Russian or…?

Harpsichord can do more than a lute, and has a more interesting sound (albeit the lute does have dynamics). Flute's a great instrument, though, too.

I have no idea why the horn has a habit of attracting the weirdest people. It's probably one of the most graceful sounding of wind instruments, but I guess most people don't get past middle school ensemble because it's also one of the harder wind instruments to learn; so by the time high school and college roll around, you get the people who are either REALLY passionate about music and can play every instrument in the ensemble without transposing the sheet music, or the weird kid that has never taken a day off in his life and always makes weird glances at the flutes.
