Second, buy actual milsurp. There are a few brands that make gear that's waaaaay better than actual milsurp, Arc'teryx and Crye Precision are two perfect examples, but those generally won't be the style you're looking for.


If you're going for a field jacket like you have pictured, an actual M65 jacket will beat every thing within same price range trying to emulate it. They're more practical obviously (superior construction and materials), but they posses a much more vintage appearance. I can pick out an actual M65 jacket out of a crowd instantly, and can tell which jackets are cheap knockoffs. Then you have brands like Barbour and Belfast, that truly do make a better jacket but are considerably more expensive.

My recommendation is to go to your local surplus store, try some stuff on. See what you like. Terrorwave threads actually have some decent inspo every now and then.
