I've actually never done anything to maintain that bag and I kinda treat it like shit - stuffing it with heavy groceries, taking it out in the rain, etc. It's been remarkably durable especially considering I only spent $40 on it. Everything I copped in Guatemala has actually held up really well. The locals there know their shit. Is there anything you think I should do to get a few more years out of it?

Normally, you're supposed to brush it off and wax it, basically like what you'd do with leather shoes. It maybe would have prevented the leather to tear at the seams and at the bottom. A big maybe though.

I packed it up and used it today, I think I'll go with it, it's really tough, waterproof, looks nice, and it has a good ammount of storage.

You can still see some of the silver paint on it, but I was using a flash plus natural lighting. It is quite faded and It'll probably go away soon completely, if not I'll wipe it out later.

Amazing backpack, very useful and durable, you may struggle to easily fit a water bottle in the side pockets but they are proabably the only downside. Let's pray it does'nt have the same fate as the kaken but the high price point makes me confident it won't be as popular with 'those' guys.

I have something similar to this - smaller and probably a lot cheaper. I tied up all the straps so they don't dangle, removed the across-waist strap and replaced the cords on the zippers with bright red to make them more visible

it took me a long time to find a back pack I liked that didn't have leather components and wasn't too expensive.

I've become a big fan of North Face's backpacks. I have the microbyte in a navy/grey color and it's very nice, but very small. It's perfect for carrying stuff for one subject, maybe two if you're not dragging along text books, but that's about it. I'm considering getting the Iron Peak backpack, which is in the same line. The main reason i like these is that they're pretty comfortable to wear and the material/construction is solid.

If you have money to spend, check out Makr or nosre projects
