For my contribution I choose stranger than paradise. Not exaclty your typical '/fa/' movie, but it captures the early-20s ennui that this board seems to be under the influence of, as well as some neat slacker-core fits.
>>11930370
Did not expect this on /fa/. very good choice.

a classic choice. all of wong kar-wai's films have great style (both filmatic and fashion)

that whole antonioni trilogy is sublime. I love how in red desert the instrial landscapessymbolize Vittis' character's neurosis and yet they have a beauty in and of themselves. Shouts out to Carlo Di Palma for the cinematography on that one.
Oh and obviously Vitti alone is worth watching the triology. It was her birthday the other day i think. Happy birthday bb.
Nosferatu (1979)
I like The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, especially the expressionist set design
Me, Earl, and the Dying Girl.
Not a specific kino but Ingmar Bergman was effay as fuck. His films are GOAT as well.
>>11933927
Red Desert Vitti is best Vitti. La Notte Vitti is underrated Vitti.

I fuckin hate how emotionally manipulative these generic Sundancetbait movies always are and how I continually keep falling for them. I bawled like a bitch at the end of this. But no, this flick ain't effay.

Dumping posters for random assortment of /fa/ movies
8 1/2 is one of my favorite films. tackles the themes of artistic roadblocks, self-doubt and general disillusion. One of Fellini's greatest, and some really cool 60s stuff
I actually watched Big Trouble In Little China last night. I forgot how fast and hard this movie goes. From the beginning t othe end, it's running and gunning done in that unique carpenter style.
From Jack Burton's (Kurt Russel) 80s tough-guy americana to the magnificent costumes of the demon lo pen and his minions, this one always sticks out in my mind as an example of how to do crazy costumes well.
>>11935075
because it's try-hard garbage
nothing i need to say about the dollars trilogy, clint kills it with his ponchos, skinny jeans, boots and general disregard for everything.
>>11935254
Persona is my personal favourite of his!
(worth mentioning that I didn't enjoy The Seventh Seal either)
antonioni (an italian) does mod england better than a lot of brits can do themselves

>>11934018
the superior choice
>>11930281

Lastly i'll post 'high and low' one of my favorite Kurosawa films. His samurai movies are great, and the costumes are obviously fantastic but I always enjoyed his modern-era films (the bad sleep well, stray dog, drunken angel) more than his historical ones, in part for their social commentary and also because i'm a sucker for noir. Anyways, the costumes of the people of the underworld, the corporate world and the police compare and contrast to both accentuate the themes of the movie and give some fashion inspiration.
>>11935301
sweet, i'll check it out
>>11935254
>and didn't enjoy it very much.
I feel the same way, i think it's one of his weaker films which is a shame as it's probably the most recommended.
Persona is a good suggestion, Wild Strawberries and Autumn Sonata are also pretty great.
>>11931047
am i the only one who thought this was by far the shittiest episode in the whole series? some really good fits but zero suspense and an incoherent, boring storyline.
>>11935396
thanks for the recs.
bergman is always so highly regarded, i was quite disappointed when i watched seventh seal. hopefully the ones you rec'd are more my speed.
>>11935425
I think people just recommend it because it has knights and shit believing an entry-level viewer would be most interested in that sort of thing, it's hard to describe a lot of his best films without making them sound boring.

Just finished Persona, I loved it. Alma's acting was sublime. It's hard to imagine taking on a role with 90% of the dialogue in the movie, but she pulled it off. The cinematography was also fantastic. A few of the shots were a little too theme-laden, but most were gorgeous. Lastly I find most director's extended shots of people's faces boring but in Persona, every second that he stayed on their face the emotion grew.
Anyways, thanks again for the rec
