I didn't really know what haircut would best suit me. I used to be the "special snowflake" type with my hair and always had it long and colored, but now I've just kept it short and styled. I usually slick my front fringe over to the side and it looks p decent using a jojoba crystal wax.

I've been told from multiple barbers that because of my Asian, thick, coarse hair, that I either have two options :
1) do the stylized wax haircut where it can be spiked or slicked as usual
2) buzz it

Because my head is almost like an egg and that my dad is bald and also has glasses, getting a buzz would look ridiculous (and also because I've had one for almost 10 years of my childhood).

Reason why I'm posting is because I want to venture out of my usual slicked haircut and maybe try something else?

Any suggestions would be great.

i) I used to avoid washing with shampoo every night by just using water. Does this count as not washing?
As mentioned, I style my hair almost every day. And I need to wash out the guck out whether at night or in the morning then re-apply another layer of my product.

ii) what style did you grow your hair into? Something like this >>11917864?

iii) and let's say I do grow it out, how will I maintain it as I grow it? It's the transition that worries me. As you can see from my original pic, when my hair grows out, my sides look like a cactus. It sticks out to the side and in every direction possible.
Don't want to sound like a douche, but I have a teaching job and need to maintain some form of cleanliness and not look like I don't want to get a haircut you know?
