Absolutely noyt
>>11838573
For you, good cop dude possibly wear a shirt with a smaller collar and button it up all the way. The jacket is too big for a loose fitting shirt. Maybe a darker blue too, follow the earthy tone of the jacket

Other than that rock some other shoes, you look like palewave attended a "bring your son to work" day

Brown jacket, brown shoes, brown belt, brown wallet, brown leather for a watch band

People might scold me for "matchy matchy" but whatever its just my opinion

It's about being American, actually. If you're going to dress like an American you should be prepared to buy American shoes and not a crappy European substitute. I mean, it doesn't have to be Alden, just buy some fucking LL Bean loafers and get it over with, my grandpa has been wearing them since 1956.

It's very odd that Europoors want to look like us when they have perfectly good styles in their own countries. Sad!

Why is prep so associated with lifestyle and background when so many of the other styles that we discuss on this board are separate from this association? I hate this idea that you have to be an authentic trust fund babby in order to wear a style of clothing. That seems so wrong to me and completely antithetical to what I think style should be. Lots of people might wear certain brands religiously in order to be "authentic". Your idea of prep doesn't sound like style to me, it sounds like a costume or a uniform.

Now I'm a britbong but I like many elements of the prep style (relaxed chinos/loafers/blazers/tweed/sweatshirts etc). I don't think my background affects whether it looks good on me or not. Nor would brand affect that either. There are a million loafers that aren't Bass. To say that you must be "authentic" is poison to personal style imo.
>>
>>11857983
It's not a costume, it's just clothes that many of us Americans wear every single day. To take a page from tumblr's book, threads like these are cultural appropriation, plain and simple.
>>
>>11858000
>cultural appropriation
But that's how fashion changes over time. Do you really think that suits are an American invention and not descended from 18th century military uniform? That many elements of prep are not descended from British country clothing?

Come on.

What this poster >>11857956 is saying is completely wrong. It's not style to tell someone that they need to wear a certain brand or live a certain lifestyle. Telling someone what clothes they need to wear and by which brand is absolutely a uniform. Whether you like it or not, what was once the clothes worn by east coast university students is now a style, to be interpreted and worn by people around the world.

Do you think Take Ivy should not have been published because it was by a Japanese man?

>Do you think Take Ivy should not have been published because it was by a Japanese man?
Come on now, that's literally not an argument, considering it's about the wealthy American students at those colleges who dressed that way their entire lives.

>to be interpreted and worn by people around the world.
Sure. I'd still argue that say, Alden, is the best choice for said interpretation considering its high quality and New England heritage. (I don't wear Aldens though, my cordovans are from a defunct shoe company that closed 40 years ago). Euros are free to interpret things however they want but that doesn't necessarily make it prep.
>>
>>11858036
>that suits are an American invention
The sack suit is. And just because it's descended from a military uniform doesn't make it a military uniform.

Hence, you're free to dress however you want, but that doesn't make it prep.

you realise the new england preppy style is derived directly from english countrywear right?

why do you think they all play tennis and golf and rugby and go sailing

hell, some of the staple preppy items are actually british: the burberry coat for example

i strive for this type of prep; traditional, very New England based (Connecticut-fag here).

I wouldn't recommend having too much RL these days, I noticed that a lot of hip-hop artists and lower middle-class people are flaunting it very inappropriately
