sleeve stitching should be square with your shoulders and the jacket should sit at your hip

but if you're concerned about warmth i would get the sherpa, you can layer the sherpa too

but a denim jacket is more versatile.

you can layer it in the fall/mild winters and be warm

or use it with just a tshirt in the spring and cool nights during summer

I have no sherpa experience but type 3s seem to vary over the years. For instance I have one that I think is 80s. You know the "Vs" that come down from the breast pockets? There are hand warmer pockets and you put your hand in under the Vs. Not unconcealed like this one:
