Are watches the ugliest thing you can possible wear?
It feels like you have a fit, sleek and looks good, and then there's a big hunk of obnoxious shit on your wrist throwing it off.
>>11773970
I disagree, OP, I love watches:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x4obeqaxhRs
>>11773970
Watches are the only universally acceptable jewelry you can wear as a man.
Also, they look cool as fuck if you're vascular.
Seeing as this is now an official watch thread, here's mine, although I've swapped the band to a nato strap now.
>>11774025
Why is your watch on the inside of your wrist
>>11774027
Steel bracelets tend to make the face end up there at times, because I can't stand them being too tight and digging into my skin all day.
This happens much more rarely now on the nato which I can wear more tightly with equal comfort, but it still happens once in a while.
>>11774039
Oh okay, that makes sense. I just thought it was an intentional stylistic choice haha
depending on the brand and styling, a watch will determine you wealth, maturity, and social class.
>>11774027
>>11774046
People who have a military background tends to wear it like that so the dial won't reflect light and compromise their location.
Also to avoid scratches/damage.
>>11774047
That's not true at all. Few people really care about watches. A few wealthy people will buy a random expensive watch, others won't bother.
None of my bosses wear watches, or have in the past, and they certainly make enough to be able to afford a good watch.
>>11774061
that was the gayest thing i've read in a good while
>>11774061
As somebody who wears their watch on the inside this really isn't completely true.
It experiences pretty much the same amount of wear one way or the other. And the whole giving away your position thing is bull; soldiers would wear them on the inside of their wrist so they could tell the time without letting go of their rifles.
Also it's very much a comfort thing. Some people find it more comfortable/easier to read that way.
>>11773970
>Are watches the ugliest thing you can possible wear?
>It feels like you have a fit, sleek and looks good, and then there's a big hunk of obnoxious shit on your wrist throwing it off.
Only if you buy shitty watches.
IF you buy decent tiempieces, like pic related, you'll have a great watch that won't make you look like a manchild.
Seeing as this is now a watch thread, is this Effay?
>>11776965
I'm also considering this
>>11774067
You didn't read what I said, did you? How many people wear watches doesn't effect the fact that a CEO of a major business is more likely to wear Patek Phillipe than a baby blue Casio G-Shock.
I'll restate it; your watch will determine your wealth, maturity, and social class.
Post a picture of someone wearing a Rolex and a supreme hoodie or a timex weekender and Jordan's.
if you don't like them don't wear them, but not all watches are obnoxious or chunky, just look at the F91W, its quite discrete
I work in an environment where a Rolex (or equivalent) is expected of anyone above the age of ~30 in order to prove they are successful.
And yet I find none of the Rolex watches attractive.
The only one I find acceptable is the Oyster Perpetual design, but I'm still not really in love with it.
Personally, I love the looks and the blue accents of the Casio Oceanus - but it's Casio and quartz, that's not acceptable in this circle.
I'm still 27 and I can't afford a Rolex yet, though.
I'm sure my taste will change over time and I will find them attractive purely because I'll feel I -have- to buy one as a status symbol.
I guess this is what happened to everybody else too.
>>11777040
rolex is the baby g for rich people. Its target group are people who know shit about watches but want to own an expensive one.
people mostly buy it because every one knows what a rolex is and they sort of all look the same so you can be sure that people will see the rolex, know it is a rolex and think "hey that guy has a rolex".
If you have the money for a high quality watch go for something like nomos, glashütte, IWC Schaffhausen, Omega, or A Lange & Sohn.
Getting a rolex is as much of a douche thing as leaving the last button on your blazer sleeves open.
>>11777103
The problem is that this is a case of making sure other people know what you're wearing, which is why everybody wears a Rolex.
I'm fairly convinced this is the only reason people buy them anymore.

>>11777040
>>11777040
A Rolex is very attainable. You can get a vintage date just for about $3300 CDN which is even less in you're in the USA
>>11776965
I got a Boss Watch. Have to recommend it. I got a white/silver dial and black leather armband. Cheap, good and solid. Very solid actually.
>>11777001
You're positively stupid.
The point you are trying to make is that X will determine the watch you're wearing, not the other way.
But even that is stupid.
In any case, it's pretty clear you're a teenager with no idea how actual people that are financially comfortable dress.
I was thinking of getting this as my next watch. I want to get a diver but I'm not really interest in Rolex. My only issue is all the fucking text they put on the dial.

As someone who has owned 3 Rolex watches in the past (Submariner, Day-Date & Explorer I), let me tell you that you shouldn't give a shit about what people think about you or your watch.
In fact there is no objective reason to spend a fortune on a watch that is less durable and exact than a cheap digital Casio, except if you're really into the mechanical aspect and/or want to wear something made of precious metals.
Also from my many years of experience wearing these watches, NOBODY gives a flying shit what you have on your wrist. 90% of all people will never take a look at your watch and won't notice it. The other 10% are divided between people who don't even know your watch is expensive and those who will think you're a pretentious asshole for wearing it. Only 1% will react positively towards you, and those are gold digger bitches. Trust me, wearing a Rolex will only attract people you do not want around you.
Don't waste your money.
These seat belt straps look pretty sweet
>>11773970
I feel naked if i don't wear a watch.
>>11774061
as someone in the military, I can tell you this - if you're wearing a shiny watch, you give not even .5 of a fuck if the face is in or out.
>>11774061

I'd say around 7 inches, maybe a bit less. It's a smaller watch compared to contemporary divers and such, but I prefer the more classic look anyway.
Here it is on the nato. I like it a bit less than the bracelet it comes with, but it's way more comfortable (although the cheap bracelet it comes with it is pretty comfortable for a steel bracelet, because it's thin and hallow-feeling).

couple questions
Is Tissot a good brand?
Any similar style watches you'd recommend?
can you get an automatic watch for less than £200 that isn't a piece of shit?
Is a submariner /fa?
>>11788035
Tissot is a decent entry level Swiss brand.
My first automatic was pic related, a PR100. A good automatic for under $300, my only complaint about it though was the fact that the case back was a snap back and not a traditional screwdown. It just meant I had be more careful around water.
>>11773970
Buy a sleek watch then.
I'm a huge fan of Skagen watches (from Denmark) because they're thin and impeccably styled. I own 4 of them for different occasions. Watches are needed, but you don't have to wear a huge chunk of shit on your wrist.

Watch "enthusiasts" just fetishize the idea of the watchmaker with decades of devotion and training, calmly pouring his lifeblood into a product that was out-engineered and rendered obsolete 90 years ago. Get whatever you think looks nice and won't break. If you pay a little more, you can get some combination of more dials, more water resistance, and greater likelihood that the seconds hand will square up with the notches on the dial.
Is there anything similar to a Rolex, but not a Rolex? Not necessarily cheaper, but I don't want to pay that much for a Jewish meme

>>11801951
When did you figure out you want it?
>>11801963
A while ago, I've been thinking about it. Why does that matter?
>>11801972
Because I always advise people to wait at least 3 months to see if it's worth spending a large amount of money on.
>>11801988
I've had my eye on this one since around May-ish. I've wanted a decent watch for even before that but I never really found one that caught my eye, and then I came across this one. What do you think of it?
>>11801995
I like the orange, but I'm not a big fan of the hands, nor the dial.
I wouldn't get it.
But luckily the only thing that matters is what you think, haha.
If you have the money available, and have thought this through, both seems like you have - go for it, anon.
And remember to post pics of it.

Would you ever get a high-end watch from Jomashop (or stores like it)? There's apparently no manufacturer's warranty because of the price discounts. http://www.jomashop.com/company-info/jomainfo.

Good 80's feel

I unironically like this. And I know some of you do too. Nerdcore is a thing
Here is a USA Vietnam war issue canvas watch. I think vintage military watches are just the sexiest thing, especially Aviation ones. Ima bump some jpgs

It costs $10. It's one of the best cheap watches purely for practicality and durability. A Seiko 5 is not practical in any way, dum dum

The Casio is the only one I actually paid for and is my daily. I think the Sweda has some rustic charm to it and unfortunately the Tissot is my least favourite, doesn't seem to sit quite right on my wrist and I think it's probably too large.
Meme watch or effay?

I want a cheap bauhaus automatic watch. Is this the best in its price range or should I save up for 10 months and get a nomos tagente?
>>11807732
If you want a Tangente "homage," get a Rodina: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B017IBH0BA/. It's also sold under the Rider brand name.
>>11808038
The hands on the rodina isn't as long though and I would like to avoid getting a chinese brand even if they are great at that price range
>>11794302

Why?
>>11777189
beautiful piece. How much was it
>>11809719
I have no idea how to explain it properly
It just has the reputation of being "the" really cheap Nomos lookalike, that it feels like there isn't a point in getting the Rodina even though I like the bauhaus look. And there's so many variations of it out in the market with different words on the dial, it just kind of cheapens the brand because it seems like they don't know what they should do either.
>>11795683
If you are into digital displays, DW-5600 is the one you're looking for.
You can get your arm smashed into bits and it will still give the time perfectly. And is affordable as fuck.
If you're into analogic displays, those are 3x the price. If you want a resistant analogic, go get a precista quartz, a marathon or similar military issue watches, avoid stuff like mvmt.
OR get a timex expedition.

Jomashop is ok, but they are "grey market", if you really want to pay for a high-end, buy it directly from them. Anyway, what's "High-end" for you? $50k?
>>11804669
Vostoks, Poljots and komandirskies are really appreciated for what they are, affordable, rugged mechanical wristwatches. Not luxury tho.
>>11810851
Yes, protips for /fa/ to get a russian mechanical watch: Avoid buying from ukranie, those are frankenwatches, buy from legit confirmed distributors like zenitar at ebay, or russia2all on the web.

>Panerai Homage by Casio
You did fine, if it's around $50. Casios and Seikos are the best affordable Quartz arround, you get a little more of what you paid.
Having said that, I think that as a Panerai Homage, it would be better if you get it with a darker dial, either black, lead or navy blue, black is better tho.
>>11812080
Yes, Jomashop is ok then. Almost no one can beat their grey market prices.
>>11812826
>Timex
Get both, OR, get one and buy a nice extra strap with the other color, don't forget to buy the tools to change straps.
BTW, getting a Timex is way better than buying some chinese made Daniel Wellington. (OR other chinese made quartz fashion brand shit)
I've been toying with the idea of buying this one. Thoughts?
>>11813894
Sleek design, it's kind of the design Dieter Rams would have got to if he made wristwatches. Braun is a weird example of wristwatch brand, existing between being a fashion brand and a quartz utility watches brand.
Anyway it's quartz, do not pay more than $75, aim to get it for way less.
>>11813921
Second thoughts, Helvetica in a wristwatch that's not military-like, well, it's kind of odd. Get it without the numerals, marks only.
This one is even more "Dieter Rams".
Kind of "dad tier", tho.
>>11813894
GARBAGE
>>11810976
Well done, anon.
>>11813954
It's made in china for sure. But Braun is a totally legit consumer products company that makes more money than Rolex and the Swatch Group combined.
So if anons here are looking for REAL garbage, go look for low tier quartz watches on ebay with engrish-like named brands. And those even keep giving good time.
What are the cheapest watch brands that are acceptable for a starter?
>>11813921
>>11813930
Thanks friend, I'm not sure they make it for men without the numerals but I'll give it a shot. All the stores I've seen it for online hover around $100 at best though.
>>11814044
Depends on your standards and your budget. (Also your taste and style)
My opinion is, mostly focused in quality and reliability first, not fashion statements:
If you are into mechanicals only, Seiko is great for a starter.
Also some russian brands like Komandirskie, amphibia, raketa, poljot, vostok. (But buy from legit distributors, avoid refurbisheds)
There are also many legit micro-brands that make great mechanicals at that price tier too, like CWC, MWC, Precista, etc.
Some would say Invicta, but they have chinese movements, and they sell them almost as EU made.
Military issued watches are priced fairly and are top-notch quality, like marathon watches.
If your budget is higher, go get a german made mechanical watch, like Nomos, or Glashütte.
If you want swiss made, you'll not get any cheap over there.
If you want one with quartz movement, avoid fashion brands (They'll sell you a watch at 2x-5x it's price) and avoid chinese mushroom brands too, they have poor quality control.
Some people like swatch, but I don't fancy their designs, but their quality is ok tho, my wife had those at HS tho.
If you are into sports and/or want a daily beater for i.e. lawn chores, go get a g-shock(or any other casio that fits) they are japan-made. Puma, adidas and nike are made in china but priced as they are not.
What kind of watches are you into? Divers? Pilot's? Formal? Chronos?
>>11814059
Get a timex, they have indiglo, and with luck and persistence you can find a dial design like the brauns with or without the numerals for arround $50.
>>11814132
>continued....
TL;DR
>What are the cheapest watch brands that are acceptable for a starter?
The cheapest cheapest for a conscious consumer miser and/or poorfag?
For Quartz:Casio. Good quality control, hundreds of different designs, either analog and/or digitals.
For Mechanicals: Seiko 5. Good quality control, dozens of different designs, all analog.
Both are made in asia, but the quality control is top tier.
For something not totally related to asia and still the cheapest but with some quality, go get a Timex, either analog or digital.
If you want cheaper than that, you'll make a bad purchase.
>>11814044
Go get lost here sempai

>>11814132
micro-brands are great for /fa/ hipsters, nobody will know your brand, and your watch would still be quite good.
>>11814059
That's because maybe they got sold-out. No-numerals is the way to go for dressy.
>>11813894
it's the kind of watch that a lab-rat assistant would wear, I like it. Would do great with a white lab coat.
Pic for inspo.
>>11813863
>buy a nice extra strap with the other color
Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I guess I'll buy the black one and an extra strap. What kind of a strap should I get? Another leather band or a nato?
>>11814472
A nato is fine for more casual wearing. But if you haven't had a classic nato and don't know how they feel in your wrist, I advice you to get to feel one first, or just buy one, not a whole set. Because it's a total different way of strap. The watch dangles a little depending on how tight you get the strap around the wrist. Striped natos are better looking than plain colored ones, and usually signals that you're into watches above the average(but this is not as important)
Or you could get a two piece nato, there are striped ones too, and would be like any other kind of two piece strap, same feeling on your wrist. Get a quality nato, good hardware, stainless steel 316 is the best, with thicker nylon material, and nicely made strap holes, with the nylon material solidly melt, because if the band is cheap, the holes will deform into uselessness.
The good about buying extra straps is that you can wear them with your future watches if the lug size is the same, so buy good ones. Rotate between a black leather, a brown leather and a striped nato and you'll cover most of the dressy and casual options for a watch.
I would not buy a Timex strap if the watch can receive other normal straps. They are pricey for what you get.
Where do you live anon? I can recommend you some strap places to buy.
