How should a thick pullover fit? Im conflicted because it had a perfect fit to the sleeves, right length and all, but it felt a bit too tight.

Pic related, I tried on this pullover. I liked it because winter is very windy in my town and it seemed like a go to choice, since it had no opening at all and had a nice fleece interior padding. Thing is, I'd like to wear a sweater, or at least something a little thicker, but at least two layers.

I've spent some time reading up on M65's / M51's.

You 99% of the time want to size down to achieve any sorta of modern / slimmer look. I wear a small in most outerwear, and a Short/ Extra Small fits like a modern cut essentially. These jackets were designed with the frigid Korean peninsula as the current theater, necessitating a thick wool liner (updated from wool to a thermal diamond pattern liner in the M65) to fight the cold. Thus the jackets are cut with that in mind.

M51's have a shirt like collar, button in hood, button sleeves vs a velcro tightener and depending on manufacturer, zippers and buttons can be slightly different in specs. I recently copped a Short/Small M51 with wool lined pockets.

M65 has a different (rolling?) collar with a built in hood stored in a zipper pouch in the back, and velco fasteners on the sleeves. The zipper is also I believe a separate general design.

After this fuckin' newsletter of a post, your answer is size down your normal size.

Well, my chest measures 36" and the M65 that fits well says it's for chests up to 33". Laying flat, armpit to armpit, it measures 19.5", approx 18.25" top of shoulder, seam to seam. Back length and all that won't help you form reference much unless your short like I am. Short / XSmall M65 Cold Weather to be exact here, but the cold weather differentiation from what I can tell is just another layer of fabric stitched in.

Seconding 501's. When sized properly in the top block they still appear slim despite being a straight jean. The choice between 505's depends on leg/torso as the 501(highrise, buttonfly) has a higher rise than the 505(midrise, zipperfly). I prefer 501's simply because STF's are fun.

I wear shirts and jackets a lot. Like its may and I still have my bomber on (Its not that heavy). I stick to darker colors, and wear shirts over t shirts, that's why I'm trying to buy some more basics so I can just throw on a button up shirt over it.
