It looks like you're fighting your curls more than working with them. Next time, wash your hair with cold water. Cold water washing helps to reduce frizz. While it's wet scrunch your curls. Don't comb them out. If it's possible, try and style your hair like this.

I've spent most of my life trying to keep my hair in check. It's very low density, but the individual hairs are coarse like wires and impossible to control.

I normally grow it out and let it do whatever. I just shaved my head though, and I have to say I prefer no hair.

What could a straight, thick haired pleb do to get their hair looking like pic related?

What can you do with hair that always wants to swoop to one side and down? I've tried pomade to push it back and hairspray to sway it to the side, but everything always gives way and just allows my hair to go back into the natural position it wants.

My hair isn't particularly thick, but it's pretty tenacious and set on staying in that one position.

That depends on your hair type. Thickness, color, porosity, shape, and pattern.

But if you want something generic. Straight hair is usually better off with runnier conditioner. Wavy/curly needs thicker heavier stuff

Anyways, at this stage, I would also get a trim. You don't look bad, but there's nothing you really can do with hair this short. Just get enough trimmed to be free of the pooffiness. And at all costs, avoid getting an undercut. At this point, anyone who gets an undercut is just worthless

Hah, thanks but I've already done my research and this is already the product of heavy conditioning, no poo, and all the other routine stuff to get the curls in shape. If I don't do all that then it literally gets so frizzy that nearly all curl definition is lost and its just a big poofy mess.

Some days are better than others though, it generally looks a bit less frizzy when I do the whole routine.

Ever since I started no poo my severe dandruff has gone away. I also have low porosity hair, oils build up on my scalp and make things worse because my hair doesn't absorb it. Its so damn easy. Wash it in the shower (water only or a bit of conditioner). Get out, let it dry, looks great. Or, tie it up, looks great. I suppose its more work than a buzz or very short cut but long hair is so much less work than medium-short hair that needs product to be styled.

Just how it's in the pic. I used to use a rubber band to tie it but it will hurt like hell after a while so I stuck with a tiara for a while (pic related), but they always left those "strokes" dug on the hair.
After a few tiaras broke, I attempted to do the half--ponytail thing and use a hair claw instead of the rubber band and it worked. It holds well enough and is very comfy.
