The most important thing from a functional standpoint is not the material but the shape. In the case of those Ikea hangers the wooden ones are obviously much better shaped for your clothes.

Buy wooden hangers and break the bottom off (if you don't need it), it looks better that way. Also wire hangers are pretty cool.

If you are hanging a jacket them you need a thick width hanger, so that the shoulder padding doesn't get damaged.

If youre not an amerifat, and you actually dry your clothes the sensible way, by air, beware that your wooden hangers dont give away odor to the clothes, because wet wood smells bad.
