They were huge around the mid '00's, although they were first released in 2001 I think. They got popular when they started using patent leather and camo prints around '03. They've always been more popular in Japan, but Pharell helped make them big in the US.

May not be my favorite shoe but I think they had nice packaging, I told myself that if I find a nice colorway I like i'd get a pair.

I don't own any but they appeal to the childhood nostalgia. If I was rich I'd want my walls to be coloured in Bapesta colours

They were cool and foreign, came in many colors. Rap stars had them, so they were sought after for cred.
I had some shitty blue/yellow weird cloud camo pattern and red/white Ghostbusters. They weren't really comfortable so I hardly wore them except on dates, girls thought it was cool
