It's really stable, never crashes once configured, has strict standards for free software but makes it easy to get shit like mp3 codec, flash, etc if you want that. One of the oldest, most trusted distros.

Downside is it can be a pain in the ass to configure for the first time, wifi might not work out of the box, etc. It's worth it though.
