Only full or 3/4 sleeves in black ink have the potential of looking good (although most turn out like shit) - BUT, 1) it has to be done right and b) it has to suit YOU and your STYLE. Typically ones with lots of black shading can look good depending on the content. Ones with lots of gaps of pasty skin don't look very good.

I've got a lot of my body covered and no one says shit. I get a lot of compliments and I'm just a skinny white dude. When I was single I got laid regularly, and no one ever talked shit to me. I have many friends with no tattoos. My previous girlfriend had no tattoos. No one that I know of talks shit about how "trashy" tattoos are, other than people on 4chan or Muslims in my area.

A quick google indicated that 40% of adults under 30 have tattoos. I've never been much of a trend follower.
