garbage picture but fit looks fine
In need some inspo for cocktail attire for a friends 21st. I've never been to a cocktail party, how strict are the dress rules? The only suit I have is a light grey one I wore to my high school graduation a year or so ago. Are black dress shoes a must? Are pocket squares a must?

Jacket is way to tight and should be longer to hide your feminine hips. rest is fine.

Distressed is a bad idea. Nothing wrong with experimenting, but distressed alone will just make you look like you're trying to make some sort of bad social statement. Or that you're poor.
If you're slim enough, you could get a suit that fucks with proportions - Thom Browne is kinda famous for it, but you could go even further. I wouldn't mess with jacket length or trousers length unless you're slim, though - otherwise it could look unintentional and like you're a fatty that can't fit into a suit.
