It can be but I've taken to using f.lux, especially during the winter months. I'd definitely recommend it, not quite sure whether it's placebo regarding its claim to "assist sleep by removing blue light" but it's certainly much softer on the eyes anyway, that much is undeniably true.

On second thought, maybe I'm just biased because every rainmeter user/person with over-designed home screen I've ever met in real-life were the kind of people who act like Jeopardy contestants, and spend every moment of their life trying to demonstrate their slightly above average knowledge about everything all the fucking time. *Most* of the ones called out in this thread (OP for instance) aren't notably special, but they're far from trash. If I saw any of them on a coworkers computer I'd think "Hey that's pretty nice, they aren't littered with unused shortcuts like most people's computers".
