New to fashion here. What are the basics for someone into SLP?

I went thrifting to a couple places all day yesterday and it made me realize even more why SLP is so successful.

There's always been that critique of "anyone could thrift this look". Yeah you could, but it takes fucking forever to actually find good pieces at vintage / thrift stores. You have to wade through 99% of random garbage, and even then the best stuff you find always has a couple design "flaws" or features that you would rather do without. Then there is the issue with quality. Sometimes stuff looks nice but it feels like absolute shit and has / will age poorly.

Hedi takes those vintage staples and makes a clean, refined, "perfectly tacky" version of these pieces. You don't have to take your time to look through hundreds of random vintage stuff on ebay, or sort through the same at thrift stores. Especially for rich people - they would probably rather not do that. Hedi gives you a ready to purchase, ready to wear way to buying into the look, which isn't even available via second hand stores in some parts of the world.

Then he spices it up with a bunch of accessories and house codes / branding, puts it on the "cool kids", and sends it down on the runway with an attitude.

No matter what anyone says, slp is a genius example of brand positioning and marketing.

Anyways, here's a pic of the jacket, scarf, and belt I managed to thrift yesterday. Very slp (or what it was inspired by), I wear it with a beige shirt and the scarf thrown around / falling off my shoulder like in some of the SS15 psych rock looks. I like it. The scarf is woven with metallic fibres, so it shines irl and looks much better in photos.

The jacket fits oversized like a yohji jacket, so not the most slp in that sense but i look terrible in skinny stuff so it's my own personal twist on it. I'm also into number nine alot which shares some inspirations in musical subcultures and old western dress, so it's easier to integrate into my wardrobe

I agree, I go through every thrift shop I see and only rarely find gems where the price fits the quality.

and here's the problem, tailoring is what makes Hedi's fits so perfect. you can get paisley shirts on every corner in London, but they don't fit well enough to look good tucked in skinny jeans. it's even worse with jackets.

as a girl it's a bit easier. Mango often blatantly copies SLP so it's easy to go for pic related. but I also had some nice thrift shirts and skirts tailored if it was worth it.

i got picked up october last year, did like 2 test shoots and got confirmed for YSL almost immediately in December, I didn't go to a casting or anything, he literally confirmed me from my polaroids, which were the photos my agency first took to decide if they wanted to sign me. That's cool, and hedi's been cool to me ever since
