Good point, thanks. Honestly it's because I'm too confused about what type of exfoliation to use. I'm afraid it could actually damage my skin long term. Have any pointers?

You're going down a good path with dermalogica, check out their exfoliates, if you have somewhere you can get samples try out a few and decide what works for you. I can't really recommend anything cause I don't know your skin like you do, but if you're super lost go to an aesthetician for a consultation.
Its not gay to not want acne, so don't be concerned about your masculinity when it comes to this.

you use concealer right? I'd recommend a using toner since you do, helps to get rid of access left on the skin on top of holding in moisture. Go for a gentle skin bracer with little to no alcohol if you have dry skin, I wouldn't go with an astringent unless you struggle with oily skin.

here's how it should go in my experience:
-wash face, pat dry
-apply toner, let dry completely
-apply moisturizer
