I'm about to start a new job as a barista. they have a cool chance to express themselves via the clothes they wear and honestly I'm looking forward to having this type of freedom since all my past jobs have required some sort of dress code

what would you wear if you were working as a barista? i could use some inspo
>>
what kind of place is it

Personally I really enjoy 90s tommy hilfiger. It automatically makes you look like an easy-going person.

pic related is an example but not available for purchase. I found it here https://www.pinterest.com/pin/558727897495229704/

holllllly fuck stop posting
>>
no one has anything?
>>
dude, you'd know better than us what's appropriate.

high volume places? people wear black (or at least black pants/shoes/boots) because you're going to get coffee and shit splashed on you all day. they also go with black t's because they're functional and you can stay cooler than wearing a buttondown with rolled up sleeves.

fancier places? still generally black on bottom with a white shirt. usually rollled sleeves. some places do aprons, others don't. some places you wear ties, others not.

wearing expensive/designer shit is silly. you're in a service position. if you move into management and consulting, you can start showing off your fits. until then, i wouldn't go more expensive than mall-tier gap/banana republic shit.
>>
Rolled up casual shirt in whatever style you like, decent jeans, decent shoes.
>>
>>10612801
so would you consider polo shirts to be too much then? i have a bunch of fred perry/ben sherman/ralph lauren tops that id love to wear around the job, would that be too much? i know the risk of them getting stained but i don't mind that too much
i also don't know what id wear as far as shoes go, how far would you take shoes into consideration for jobs like these?
>>
>>10612801
should add, if you're one of those laid back "not a chain, but also not a high end boutique" places with a hipstery feel where people just wear jeans and whatever? then wear whatever.

if it were me, i'd go basic like this or i'd wear black. i haaaaate the try hard fashionistabaristas.
>>
>>10612813
>"not a chain, but also not a high end boutique"
this place is exactly one of those. the workers there definitely aren't fashionistas by any means but they are conscious enough to dress well for presentation's sake

i was thinking of wearing 1460s since they're my main work shoes and are comfortable as fuck, is this out of the ordinary?
>>
>>10612810
i wouldn't wear the polos unless they were solid black or white, but that's just me.

shoe-wise? most about function, esp. if you're behind a counter 90% of the time. a lot of people go with basic black chucks, or they go with black work boots of some sort. really not much different than what you'd wear as a bartender.
>>
Honestly it doesnt fucking matter, just wear what you normally wear. Your sentence "have a cool chance to express themselves via the clothes they wear" just made me cringe, sounds like you're having a hard time figuring out your personal style.
I had a co worker that would wear his beater margielas to close the shop.
>>
>>10612825
those would be fine. might use your current pair for work and buy a new pair for nonwork. cuz a lot of boots get pretty doused with coffee and smell like it 24/7
>>
>>10612830
i just mean that as a way to say that there is literally no dress code, especially considering the fact that any job I've had in the past never let you completely wear what you want
i know what i have in my closet and am comfortable in what i wear, I've just never had this freedom of literally getting paid to wear whatever i want. i still want to dress like myself but want to do it in a way where its not distracting from the job itself if you know what i mean
>>
whatever you do, don't be the hipster barista with wideneck tee. if i see your chest hair, i'm leaving.
>>
white OCBD everyday (buy 100 of these)
blue jeans (I rec APC)
brown or black boots

OP here,
this is a fit i wear on a daily basis, would you fuck w/ me if you saw me behind the bar making your drink?
>>
>>10612862
i guess a better question would be is this suitable for a barista job?
>>
>>10612871
if that's what suits your personality, that's fine. something like >>10612849 may give off a friendlier vibe though. and in your business? friendlier vibe = tips. tips = life.
>>
>>10612882
damn, good point.... ill definitely take that into consideration m8
>>
heres another question, as a barista, is wearing a bit of cologne frowned upon? i understand overwhelming cologne is a deal breaker, but is there an absolute zero tolerance for fragrance?
>>
cologne is frowned upon in any food service.

lol, anything to make people feel better about their shit-tier jobs
>>
>>10613388
It's a pretty chill job.
>>
>>10613400
I'm sure it is.

I just don't understand why everyone is working so hard to fool themselves into believing they are so much better than they are. Instead of a waiter/waitress, people are now 'professional coffee-serving managers' or whatever.

Just call a spade a spade.
>>
>>10613421
There's waiter and the guy who has his own café and chills while serving coffees.
>>
>>10612848
this desu
>>
>>10613421
well coffee is about of knowing the art of espresso, its a lot deeper than just 'making coffee' and i feel like thats why people in the barista world feel like they're snotty. i mean sure it may be easy on the surface but it takes a lot of work to master

I'm loving the inspo though, I'm definitely gonna take it all in. today is my first day guys wish me luck
>>
>>10613368
