Is there a lack of ecchi anime lately?

it all started right after Shinmai maou no testament season 2 ended since then we have been in an ecchi drought :(
Sure there have been other series but not any major ones which is sad.

Well I guess ecchi anime like the rest of the animation industry in Japan is going through some serious "soul searching".


They are finally starting to accept that the business models they have been using for 30 years just don't apply anymore. And their plan to have the hardcore Otaku types fill in the money lose gap by offering special outside merchandise and those $200 "uncensored blueray box-sets" isn't working well enough.
Not to mention that lately the Japanese government is hitting these markets hard with all these new puritan type laws.


So who knows what the future will hold. But I would tend to agree that for the most part the in your face tit shaking, pantie flashing, ecchi anime that many of us grew up with are probably going the way of the dodo.

Crunchyroll doesn't seem to want to carry the best Ecchi stuff. :(

I mean, sure, we had some nudity but it was brief and it was more about comedy effect, ecchi now is more sexualized and less brief.

We have borderline hentai anime like Manyuu Hickenkou, Seikon no Qwaser, etc

It's definitely a mix of both as far as I understand it. For some reason Japan has suddenly become super image conscious in the last few years about how their anime/manga is viewed by the rest of the world. Which beats me as to why.

Although I can understand that's why they've started to take a few initiatives, hopefully it remains temporary. Best case scenario is that things will go back to normal after the hype.

It's been an ongoing pattern with other countries before and after the Olympics, yet as far as I know, nothing's really changed in Russia and Brazil. Plus, Japan's fought back sternly but fairly with foreigners when faced with said accusations against their culture and anime. (e.g.- The UN situation, the recent interview during the GuP hullabaloo)
