Go for a tablet considering you already have experience in traditional. In my case i moved from traditional to tablet around 2 years ago. It takes a bit of time depending on your dedication to fully transition to tablet as the hand eye coordination might confuse you at first. I had to make use of the tablet everyday as a general pointing device even when not drawing to make myself get used to it.
Most use CSP for the drawing or SAI like myself and photoshop for shading and coloring but depends on the user.

My advice is to get better than "middle" before blowing a shitload of money on tablets and shit. CG is often used as a coverup for mediocre talent. It would stick to spend a lot of money and realize you don't really like it afterall. Maybe borrow a tablet from a friend and try it before you buy?
And it's very different. My style doesn't translate well to CG so colouring digitally is a nightmare for me. Depending on how you work, it might be starting from scratch, or it might be super easy. I've never found a tablet that felt natural to "draw" with.

Not the OR for either of these, but a piece of advice I'm going to give you is to make your shading a lot more distinct. You'll be surprised at how far removed from the 'base colour' shading can be and still look good. Experiment a bit.

I hang around /aco/ a lot (and I've gotten a good haul from the drawthread -- about 150~200 deliveries), and it's interesting to see how different generals devolve into different kinds of cancer.

/aco/'s drawthread is a special case. I haven't seen a single thread that didn't have a stupid argument for 50 posts about the rules (which are incredibly vague and selectively enforced) or people possibly being spammers. Never mind when the actual spammers show up and everyone has to deal with them and hope that the mods actually do their job.

It may take /e/'s drawthreads half a month to hit autosage, but at least it's all deliveries and requests and compliments.
